Pierce in sixth for big win

A grand slam by Brett Pierce in the bottom of the sixth did in the Dixie Boys Padres as the Indians came-from-behind to win 16-13 Friday.

After jumping out to a 10-6 lead, the Indians gave up six big runs in the fourth and trailed by two going into their final at bat. The four-run grand slam was more than enough to take care of the deficit.

Pierce missed hitting for the cycle on the day by a single, but didn’t mind all that much. The Indians’ star went 4-for-4 with two round-trippers, a triple and a double. Kevin Hester also went 4-for-4 with a triple and a double. Brandon Johnson had a pair of doubles and Quavian Lews had a single to round out the Indians’ hitting.

The Padres were led by Luke Sanders who went 3-for-4 on the day while B.J. Cannon, Daniel Porter and Lakory Daniels all had hits.

Cardinals 12, White Sox 0

The White Sox fell victum to the Pete Van Horn express as the Cardinal ace had his fourth start and his fourth shutout of the year Friday.

The Cards went on to score two in the first and third, then four in the fourth and sixth to give him the 12-0 win. Van Horn struck out 14, walked one and allowed only one hit. Ben Jones broke up the no-hitter for the Sox.

Van Horn also led the Cardinals at the plate with a 3-for-3 day. He was only a single short of the cycle after notching a triple, a double and his eighth homer of the season. Chad Sanders, Daniel Hussey and Matt Johnson all had a pair of hits for the Cards while Chris Booker finished with one hit.

DIXIE YOUTH

Cardinals 7, Dodgers 2

The Cardinals remained perfect on the season with a 7-2 win over the Dodgers in Dixie Youth action Friday.

Chad Jordan was untouchable on the mound for the Cards as he struck out 17 Dodger batters allowing only three hits and walking two. Jordan also had a great day at the plate breaking out with a two-run home run in the first inning to get things going for the Cardinals.

The Dogers got their only hits out of Jerett Sewell, Jacob Halse and Brent Kohn. The Cards got a 2-for-3 showing out of Zack Ethridge and Chad Jordan while getting hits out of Barry Rogers, Andrew Powell, Jerad Loftin, Percy Lee and Chris Ward.

PONYTAIL

Jammers 15, Volcanoes 7

The Ponytail League Jammers got 15 runs on 12 hits and held the Volcanoes to only seven runs in their 15-7 win last Monday.

The Jammers sent three different pitchers to the mound in the game with Whitney Johnson pitching two innings, striking out six and giving up two walks. April Headley and Andi Messick pitched the other two innings.

They were led by Amy Cole who notched a home run and a single, Katie Boswell with a triple and a single and Johnson who finished with a double and a single. Headley had a pair of singles while Kimberly Collins, Eden Stamey, Messick and Brittany Ledford all had singles on the day.
