The Troy State men’s basketball program signed its first recruit of the spring period picking up junior college star Lamayn Wilson.

Wilson, originally from Highland Home, Ala., comes to TSU from Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville, Miss.

Wilson, a 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward, is an outstanding prospect from the Juco level. He averaged 23 points and eight rebounds a game last season for head coach Richard Mathis and was a two-time All-Region and All-State performer.

Although he can play with his back to the basket, Wilson is best on the wing. His top juco performance came last season against East Central when he torched the nets for 45 points hitting 10-of-11 attempts from three-point range including nine in a row.

For his career, Wilson shot 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from three-point range. He played on the U.S. team in the USA-Florida junior college All-Star game scoring 24 points with 18 coming in the first half.

"Lamayn could be the best offensive big man that we’ve ever had at Troy State," TSU head coach Don Maestri, the 2000 Trans America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year said. "He can shoot from the outside and can also take it to the basket and finish. He has exceptional touch for a 6-8 player.

"His versatility in being able to play several positions especially on the wing will help us defensively as well," the coach added. "We couldn’t be more excited."

Including the early signing period, the Trojans have signed four for the upcoming season.
