The Troy City Council got an update on the Year 2000 Celebration scheduled for May 6 during its meeting Tuesday night.

John Schmidt presented a tentative schedule of events to the council, which will cost the city $5,150.

The day-long festivities will include the Jean Lake Festival from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Pike Pioneer Museum, a Torch Run, tours of the Troy Municipal Complex, dedication ceremony of the millennium monument, lighting of the eternal torch and concerts from 4 p.m. until 8:15 p.m.

After the report from Schmidt, Mayor Jimmy Lunsford and council members made some remarks.

Lunsford commended the Troy Police Department for catching two bank robbery suspects on March 29 and actively searching a third suspect.

Council President John Witherington reminded those living in District 4 that they can call 566-1333 to have oversized trash picked up during the district clean-up efforts.
