The Brundidge Cooks for a Cure for Cancer will have their baked goods on the auction block for the last time in 2000 Thursday morning from 6:30 until 7:45 on WTBF radio’s Morning Show.

All proceeds from the bake sale auctions benefit Pike County’s Relay for Life campaign.

In the first two auctions, the cooks have raised more than $600 for the fight against cancer and they are hoping to raise that much more in their last auction.

Susie Hastey, organizer of the group, said she isn’t exactly sure what will be on the block this Thursday but she guarantees that everything will be made from scratch and by some of the area’s best cooks.

"The response from the cooks has been outstanding," Hastey said. "We have people who are eager to participate. Last Thursday, Ben Andress of Troy brought by two loaves of freshly baked bread. He has promised to bring four loaves this week, so everyone will want to be listening for the bread on the block."

Hastey said a 13-layer chocolate cake has been promised but she expects by auction time the cake will have grown to 15 layers.

"We had a 15-layer cake before and I just think this one will be, too," Hastey said, laughing. "We cooks don’t like to be outdone."

Pound cakes, layer cakes, pies and bread will be on the auction block and everyone is invited to tune in to WTBF 94.7 FM and 970 AM and make a bid on a cure for cancer.
