A $500 scholarship will also be given to a student from the Troy Pike Center for Technology.

Although some of the money will be given to those planning to attend Troy State University, one of the scholarships will go to a member of the Interact Club and another scholarship will be presented to a student to use at any college or university.

"There’s a lot of different ways they can get the scholarships," said Carol Franks, scholarship chairperson for the Rotary Club. "They don’t have to be the child of a Rotarian or a member of Interact."

Franks said children of Rotarians are encouraged to apply, but will not be given special consideration in the selection process.

She said the Troy Rotary Club plans to give six $500 scholarships this year.

Each of the $500 scholarships will be given for the fall 2000 semester.

In addition to being a senior graduating from a school in the city limits of Troy, applicants must be unconditionally admitted to a university, have a high school grade point average of at least 2.5 and an ACT score of at least 18, be an incoming freshman for the 2000 fall semester and have activities and honors exhibiting leadership skills and abilities.

Applications are being made available through school guidance counselors.

The application asks for a personal resume, including extra curricular, awards and honors and a 250-word essay about why the applicant deserves the scholarship.

The deadline for applications is May 1.
