fourth to notch 13-2 win

The Pike County Bulldogs used four runs in the first and nine in the fourth to power past Calhoun 13-2 at home Monday.

The Bulldogs were running on all cylinders early and after Robby Price struck out the first three Calhoun batters the Bulldogs exploded on the scene for four quick runs.

Chris Nickson began the inning by reaching on an error. Price was able to draw a walk and after a double steal the Bulldogs had two men in scoring position.

Joshua Price reached first on a fielders choice to drive in the first Bulldog run of the game. Michael Lowery’s sacrifice fly put another run across. Soon thereafter a double by Jonathan Tillery sent two more runs in to cap off the Bulldog scoring in the first.

As Pitcher Price was not effected by the lapse in time between innings pitching three more scoreless innings before leaving the game.

The Bulldog offense was relatively silent in the second and third innings but exploded for a nine-run fourth. Six Calhoun errors along with two Nickson singles and a Price double allowed 14 Bulldogs to step to the plate in the inning.

When the Bulldog fourth finally came to an end Calhoun came on to score two runs in the fifth, but the runs were too little too late. After all was said and done the Bulldogs had cruised to a 13-2 win improving to (2-1) on the year.

Price was the winning pitcher improving to 1-0 on the year. He pitched four innings allowing only one hit and no runs. Price struck out eight while walking three.

Coach Fred Holland was pleased with the senior pitcher.

"It really doesn’t take him long to find himself on the mound," Holland said. "I’m extremely proud of him and I think he’s doing a great job."

The Bulldogs were led at the plate by Nickson who was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Price and Elijah Daniels were both 1-for-2 with an RBI each. Jonathan Tillery added two RBI’s of his own while going 1-for-2 at the plate.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a matchup with Goshen today at 4:30 p.m.
