Pearl Hornsby, 89, of Rt. 2 Brundidge died at her home on Sat. Feb. 12, 2000.

Her funeral was held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14 at Roeton Baptist Church with the Revs. Joe Underwood and Harold Peters presiding. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge is handling arrangements.

Survivors include husband, Luel J. (Shorty) Hornsby of Brundidge; daughter, Dale Waldron of Brundidge; sons and daughters-in-law, Draward and Joyce Hornsby of Brundidge; Rufus and Julia Hornsby of Brundidge; sister, Lou Bowman of New Brockton; grandchildren, Keith Hornsby, Jan and Mike Snider, Linda Waldron, Jackie and Jennifer Hornsby; great-grandchildren, Kendra Hornsby, K.J. Hornsby, Candace Hornsby, Kayli Hornsby, Amanda and Emily Snider.

She was preceded in death by son Lenwood Hornsby and granddaughter Kelli Hornsby Reeder.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 13 at Dillard Funeral Home.

William Robert Luckie, Jr.

William Robert Luckie, Jr., 65, a resident of Montgomery died Feb. 14, 2000.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the Chapel of Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home with the Revs. J. Warren Culver and Larry Yarbrough presiding. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Pamela J. (Kenneth) Beals; son, Robert K. Luckie; grandson, Michael Beals; granddaughter, Tammie Beals; mother, Myrtle R. Luckie; sister, Earline L. (James Jerry) Wood; nephews, Jay Wood, William Gregory Wood; and niece Diana L. Yarbrough.

Pallbearers will be James Jerry Wood, James Jerry Wood, Jr., William Gregory Wood, Kenneth Beals, Ervin Pinckard, and Jeff Perdue.

He was the former owner and operator of Luckie Transmissions. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Luckie.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Brooks-Cargile Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Baptist Hospice.

Florence Guthrie

Florence Guthrie, 84, of Newport died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 at Newport Hospital.

Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14 at the Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Alexander presising. Burial will follow at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery in Walnut Ridge, Ariz. Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include son, Gary Guthrie and wife Carla of Troy; daughters, Sally Beth Dolby and husband Gene of Grand Blanc, Mich., Dr. Ann Guthrie and husband Dr. Lawrence Diaz of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother Edward Reno of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Lois Preston of Fresno, Calif.; grandchildren, Adam Guthrie, Drex Guthrie, Holly Hunter Roper and husband Brian, Laurie Hunter Peterson and husband William, Jeanne Vogel Hyde, Sam Vogel III; and four great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Frankum and Wallace Steen.

She was born at Kankakee Illinois on Jan. 16, 1916 to Worth and Laura Reno. She was a retired first grade school teacher at Gibbs Albright and Castleberry Schools. She believed that children of all races and religions should be loved and nurtured. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Newport. She had a Bachelor Science degree form the Arkansas State University.

Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13 and from 8 a.m. until time of service on Monday, Feb. 14.

Lasting memorials may be made to Newport First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Cecil Guthrie Scholarship Fund, c/o Black River Baptist Association, Hoxie, AR.

Rayford McLeod

Rayford McLeod, 85, of Goshen died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000 at Crenshaw Baptist Hospital in Luverne.

His funeral was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11 at Skeen Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Wilburn Kirkland presiding. Music was provided by Mrs. Sheila Faison Jackson. Burial followed at Hopewell Cemetery.

Survivors include wife, Betty Sue McLeod of Goshen; sons, Ferrell McLeod of Troy, Bobby McLeod of Montgomery; daughter, Janice Paradise of Scottsboro; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; twin brother, Ray McLeod of Selma; sister-in-law, Effie Mae McLeod of Troy; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Benny Sanderfs, Wayne Ressley, Scotty Paradise, Louie Richbug, Titus Walters, and Billy Howell.

Honorary pallbearers were Battery C, 104the Coast Artillery of the Luverne National Guard.

He served over 3 1/2 years in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Battery C, 104th Coast Artillery of the Luverne National Guard.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10 at Skeen Funeral Home in Troy.

Rufus Stuart

Rufus Stuart, 82, of Georgiana died in a Greenville hospital.

His funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15 from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Harvill presiding. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana is handling arrangements.

Survivors include wife, Cumi Brannon Stuart of Georgiana; daughters, Shelby Stuart Brown of Troy, and Mrs. Sue Stuart Brannon of Montgomery; sons, Thomas Wayne Stuart of Deatsville, Joseph Anon Stuart of Niceville, Fla.; brothers, Homer Hilton Stuart of Bay Minette, Joseph Newman Stuart of Pensacola; and sister, Mary Ellen Pouncey of Montgomery.

Pallbearers well be Don Page, Joe Small, Winfred Brannon, Jr., Jonathan Stuart, Mark Stuart, and Ray Pouncy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. H. P. Kinsey, Winford Walton, David Harvill, Joe Shealy, Mark Gruewald, Charles Drone, Hilton Stuart, and George Hicks.

He was maried to his wife for 60 years.
