The Feb. 29 deadline for submissions to the Pike County Heritage Book is fast approaching.

Another general meeting for all persons who are interested in submitting their family histories or business, community, club and church histories for publication in the heritage book will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Troy Public Library.

Everyone who is interested in submitting information is encouraged to attend.

"There is no charge to submit information and photos about your family and they will be included whether you purchase a book or not," said Dorothy Ann Folmar, a member of the Pike County Heritage Book committee."

Folmar said it is most important for everyone to realize that there will be only one edition of the the Pike County Heritage Book.

"Although it might be reprinted, only the information and photos that are submitted before the deadline will be included," she said. "When the book comes out, there will be those who will regret not having included their family’s history and stories, but it will be too late then. So, we want to encourage everyone with roots in Pike County to make sure their family’s history is included."

Folmar said this latest, and hopefully, most comprehensive history of Pike County will be a nice hardback keepsake book.

"The price of the books purchased by deadline is $59 which is about the same or cheaper than what other counties are charging and all counties in Alabama are producing these books," Folmar said. "We don’t want the public to confuse this publication with other books on the history of Pike County. This is a new publication and it will be written by the people of the county. It will contain stories, photographs and family histories. Already, we have 325 family stories and many more are expected by the deadline. That total does not include the business, church, community and club submissions."

"This is a book about Pike County from the pioneers to the present and we would like as many families as possible to be represented," Folmar said. "Any of us will be happy to answer any questions anyone might have and provide assistance of any kind. Don’t hesitate to call."
