BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –

Samford’s Tyson Dorsey scored 21 points, hitting 7-of-9 3-point attempts in the second half, and the Bulldogs rattled home a school-record 23-of-39 attempts from beyond the arc in earning a 94-47 win in Trans America Athletic Conference basketball on Saturday.

With a raucous crowd of 2,165 roaring its approval at Seibert Hall, Samford (8-8, 5-2 TAAC) never let up in the second half, stretching a 16-point halftime lead to as much as a 49-point lead late. The 23 made 3-pointers also set a TAAC record.

"It was a day when they shot the ball extremely well, and we just couldn’t find a way to slow them down," Troy State head coach Don Maestri said. "They got on a roll and hit every shot they put up. In basketball, you have games like that. Offensively, we didn’t get much production either, and the combination made for a long afternoon."

Troy State (6-9, 2-4 TAAC) shot just 33 percent in the game (19-of-57) and 14 percent from 3-point range (3-of-21) to contribute to its demise.

Lemayn Wilson was the only Trojan to finish with double figures in scoring, hitting 5-of-11 field goal attempts for 14 points.

The Bulldogs opened the game on fire from 3-point range, sinking 10-of-18 attempts in the first half. Troy State battled back from an early deficit to take a 9-8 lead at the 16:08 mark but couldn’t wrestle the lead away after that.

Samford, which made only three 2-point baskets in the half, led 38-22 at the intermission and exploded from there. The Bulldogs shot 56 percent for the game (33-of-59) and 59 percent from 3-point range. They also outrebounded Troy State, 39-30.

The Trojans return to action on Thursday at home in a doubleheader. The Lady Trojans play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 5 p.m., with the men to face TAAC foe Campbell thirty minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game.
