With an impressive 53-28 beating of cross-county rival, Goshen, the Pike County Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-0 on the season, continuing to exceed their coaches’ expectations.

"I was just hoping we could go .500 until Christmas since we had two girls out till then," Lady Bulldog head coach Leroy Bryant said. "But the girls have stepped it up and they’ve done a great job."

Pike County led by 13 at the intermission and ran off 12 straight points to open the second half to put the game out of reach for the struggling Lady Eagles (0-7). Bridget Barron had 13 points for Pike County and was followed by Andrea Bailey with 11.

Seniors Pricilla Baker and Hope Griffin, seeing their first game action for the Lady Bulldogs, combined for 14 points of their own.

"They did a great job in their first ball game and have fit right in with the team," Bryant said. "They’re seniors so they can handle the transition."

Despite the 7-0 start, Bryant said his team doesn’t care about the fact that the Lady Bulldogs have yet to crack the Alabama Class 4A Top 10.

"We don’t control that," he said. "We’re not worried about rank.That doesn’t mean nothing to me or this team. We’re just trying to get better every day."

Eunique Williams led the Lady Eagles with 13 and Kayla Ellis had 10 points for Goshen in the loss.

Next up for Goshen is a trip to Luverne Friday while the Pike County Bulldogs host Ozark this Saturday.
