Troy City Board of Education named Ken Bynum vice principal of Charles Henderson Middle School in a specially called meeting Monday.

The recommendation was made by CHMS Principal David Helms. The vacancy was left when Helms, who is the former vice principal at the school, was named principal in December.

He replaced Mike Hall, who left the school system to pursue a career in the financial industry.

Before being named to the CHMS staff, Bynum served as assistant principal at Charles Henderson High School, said Troy City Schools Superintendent Hank Jones.

He has worked for 13 years in the Troy City School System, serving as physical education teacher and coach. Bynum taught PE, was head football and basketball coach and athletic director at the middle school from 1987 until 1997 when he became assistant principal at the high school.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University and a masters degree in physical education from Troy State University, Jones said. He is certified in educational leadership.

Also at the meeting, the school board accepted the resignation of Dorothy Stringer, who served as a maid at Charles Henderson High School.
