In the early game on Tuesday, the winner of the second round matchup between the Calhoun Lady Tigers and the Lady Wolverines of Carver wouldn’t get much rest because the championship was played later that night.

Carver took the hard-fought victory 49-40 moving on to the girls’ championship match against the host Charles Henderson Lady Trojans.

The two teams matched up in a very physical bout that highlighted pressure defense and limited scoring from both sides. While it might have been the lowest scoring game of the tournament it was probably one of the most exciting.

The contest was tight throughout with the Lady Wolverines holding a 20-19 lead at the end of the first half and looked to put Calhoun away early in the third rattling off a quick 5-1 run.

The Lady Tigers fought back, however, with Kara Hulett hitting a long-range three then

Charlene Hayes scoring on a putback under the basket to tie the game at 25-25.

Calhoun managed to carry a 28-27 lead into the fourth, but the Lady Wolverines put together a 9-0 run towards the end of the period eating up lots of clock and forcing the Lady Tigers to foul.

Carver sealed the victory at the free throw line with numerous Calhoun players being forced to foul out of the game.

Bridgett Boykin lead all scorers with 13 for the Lady Wolverines, Leguinda Green had 12 and Amy White finished with nine.

The Lanier boys’ team got into the Championship of the CHHS Christmas Classic with a 55-39 win over the Carver Wolverines Tuesday night.

The Poets remained unbeaten on the season after jumping out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter and out-scoring Carver in ever quarter except for the fourth.

Carver was done in by some hot shooting, tough full-court pressure and the Poet’s 6-foot-8 225-pound center, Marco Killingsworth who’s presence inside was to much for the smaller CHS lineup.

Killingsworth finished with only 10 points in the highly defensive game, but came down with numerous rebounds on both sides of the ball while teammate Johnny Mitchell finished with a team-high 15. Carver’s Darius Muse hit for a game-high 18 to lead the Wolverines.
