When you lose two games in a row it’s usually pretty painful. When you lose those two games by a total of two points, it’s gut-wrenching.

The Troy State Trojans (4-4 overall, 1-0 in TAAC play) dropped their second straight Saturday night 62-61 to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (4-2) on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Jason Elloie. It was almost an instant replay of the 81-80 victory against Maine last Monday and came after the Trojans hoped a little of that last second magic had finally come their way.

Troy State fought back from a 57-52 deficit with under three minutes to go. A couple of clutch 3-pointers by Rushing and Detric Golden to go with a Golden free throw tied the game at 59-59.

With only 6.9 seconds left on the clock Robert Rushings released a long-range 3-pointer that sailed wide left only to have center Jacova Jenkins there to clean up his mess banking the ball in off the rebound putting TSU up by two.

The Lions moved the ball up quickly to half court then called a timeout with only 3.9 ticks left on the clock. SLU set up their play and Alfrado Jackson took the inbounds off a good pick. Jackson penetrated then dished out to a wide-open Elloie who buried the dagger.

Golden led the Trojans with a game high 25 with Tote Christopher closely following with 13. Jenkins had 10 in limited action due to foul troubles. Lee Carney and Marcus Kemp led the Lions with 14 apiece. Elloie had 11.

The Trojans will now take a week off before hosting Texas San Antonio. The Roadrunners are picked to win the Southland Conference this year. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
