It’s been a pretty tough road for the Charles Henderson High Trojans so far this year, but the rewards could show up in experience later in the season.

The Trojans are an uncharacteristic 1-3 after their loss to Prattville Friday night and now have the tough task of traveling to Jeff Davis to face the team that defeated them 68-58 at home earlier this season.

CHHS head coach Carl Hollis knows his players have taken some tough losses, but hopes that some early lessons can be learned by playing such quality foes.

"It’s good that we face these kind of teams early, it can only help this ball club," Hollis said. "That’s the purpose of it all. We want to play quality teams that help us to become a better club overall."

The coach also said that he likes the fact that the Trojans will continue to play throughout much of the Christmas break while some teams might take time off.

"I don’t like to sit and take two weeks off," Hollis said. "I don’t like to have to start all over again when you get back. We’ve always played a lot of games and I feel it helps teams the more you get them out on the court and get them in those types of situations."

Hollis says his club just can’t seem to play consistent ball at the moment. While he is working on trying to isolate the problems he still feels this team can play with anyone they face even in the early part of their schedule. And going on the road against Jeff Davis is a perfect time to win one of those games back and prove that the Trojans are better than a 1-3 record.

"They have shown flashes, but it’s obvious that we’re taking our lumps right now," Hollis said. "Right now this team is up and down and just can’t seem to be consistent. I haven’t pin pointed this bunch just yet.

"We’re fired up about going to Jeff Davis and playing them again," he continued. "We look forward to getting a second chance at them. If we play well we can play a team like this really close, if we play sloppy it won’t be a very good ball game. This is the first year that they’ve beaten us at home and since we beat them up there last year I’m sure they will be fired up about playing us as well."

Tipoff for the junior varsity game is set for 4:30 p.m. with the girls’ varsity immediately following.
