Troy City School System officials hope to name a new principal for Charles Henderson Middle School Wednesday.

Superintendent Hank Jones has tentatively set a specially called meeting of the Troy City Board of Education for noon tomorrow. If interviews scheduled Monday and Tuesday go as planned, Jones said he hopes to make a recommendation to the board at the meeting.

The school board must approve the superintendent’s recommendation before a hire can be made.

Three candidates are being interviewed to replace the current Charles Henderson Middle School Principal Mike Hall. His last official day of employment with the school system is Dec. 31, Jones said.

Hall is leaving the field of education to pursue a career with a financial institution in Elba.

Two of the three candidates being interviewed currently work in Troy, and a third lives in Florida.

CHMS Vice Principal David Helms is interviewing for the job, Jones said. George Robinson, who is a supervisor at Superior Wood Components in Troy, is also a candidate.

The third man being interviewed is Jerry Brown of Panama City, Fla.

Brown has worked for about 25 years in the Bay County School System as a teacher, coach and administrator, Jones said. He currently serves as placement / transition specialist with the Florida Department of Corrections at Washington Correctional Institution.

These three candidates are among 10 people who inquired about the CHMS principal’s position, Jones said. Of those 10, six people did not follow up with applications, and four people applied for the job.

Besides the three candidates being interviewed, the fourth applicant chose not to come to an interview, he said.
