TSU victory that much sweeter

Troy State’s huge win over then No. 19 Stephen F. Austin was a complete success for everyone concerned Saturday, but it was only one step towards the Trojans’ ultimate goal of winning it all in 1999.

To the team’s credit it has taken the stellar season one step at a time and one game at a time all year and now TSU is reaping the benefits of patience.

We feel that it is our job as a community to continue to support our No. 1 nationally ranked Trojans as they try and finish out a story book season undefeated and dive head first into the playoffs with a full head of steam.

Thanks to all those who turned out for the big game Saturday, the weekend was a huge success. The team came away with an impressive 27-7 victory, retained its No. 1 ranking in all the polls and now must travel to McNeese State to continue the quest for not only the Southland Football League crown, but also an undefeated season.

With an undefeated season TSU would doubtlessly finish the year ranked No. 1 which means a lot not only to the Trojans, but to the city of Troy as well.

Finishing out the season undefeated will nab TSU one of the top seedings in the Division I-AA playoffs allowing the Trojans to host all playoff games up until the finals. Not only would the home field advantage be a fantastic boost for the Trojans, but it would be a great chance for the city of Troy to show its hospitality and style to other nationally ranked opponents who will be traveling here, and it would bring an economic boost to us as well.

This is an outstanding opportunity for all of those involved and we feel it is the duty of our community to get behind head coach Larry Blakeney and the Trojans 100 percent for their final push towards a Southland Football League and a National title. This kind of thing doesn’t happen all the time and the hard work of each and every one of these players should not go unnoticed and definitely not unappreciated.

So thank you to everyone who has supported the Trojans this year and if you happen to run across one of the TSU players in the coming weeks, pat them on the back and tell them how proud we all are of our No. 1 ranked Troy State Trojans!!!
