It's just like a needle in the vein isn't it? It stings, but that is what the truth will do for you. I, for one, am proud that someone had the guts to speak thier mind. There would be a lot less problems and a lot more civility if others would follow suit. Does it matter that he was black, or white for that matter? In my opinion, No. Does it matter that he was the "King" of Pop? That's just a sideline. He brought disgrace to himself by trying too hard to be a celebrity. When his chart sells were waning, he found other means to have his name in the papers, yet all the while he remained in seclusion at his "ranch".

Come on now.. sure Elvis is dead.. but so is Michael Jackson. Neither one are coming back in a physical form; but if they do, I'll be the first in line to thier comeback concerts. Hey, stranger things have happened...

To uglydog65.... The lady was Mrs. Myrtice Green who ran a Texaco out in the Monticello community. She was the sweetest lady that I have ever known, and the most gracious. My grandad used to buy a lot of candies and things from her when he would sell Raleigh products out in the country. A sweet, sweet woman, who will never, ever be forgotten.

There are quite a few homeless shelters in the "near" area. Faith Rescue Mission in Montgomery is where I usually take my donations. I just wish we could cut out the middle man and give to people face to face. When I was a kid, there was a family that lived up the road from us and we gave everything we couldn't use to them. We were not wealthy, but we had a good deal more than they did. There were 12 kids in that family and they barely had enough to scrape by. I may not know what it means to be poor, but I know what it means to be without because I saw it.

Well sorry to break this to folks, but I have worked at one of the "Community Service Origanizations" in Pike County and in my opinion, you would be better off looking for food in a dumpster. I have a heart for those in need, but other's do not. It was required of certain people to produce statements of monthly income and billing statements in order to get any kind of help. I lost all faith in community donations after that. I would rather place my unused donations in one of the anonymous boxes by the side of the road than to see the clerks of the store walking down the street the next day with those same donations on thier backs. I take all of my donations to homeless shelters where I know that there will be an urgent need and they will be distributed without thought.

I've read a lot of good comments on here, both pro and con. I thought that I would add my two cents worth, (if opinions are still valued as much). First of all I did not support Obama, I just did not like him plain and simple. Being a white male in his 30's, some might call it racist, but I wouldn't have supported him had his face been white. His overall demeanor is strange to me, as well as his eyes. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and if that is the case, his soul is hollow and that my friend, is scary.

Neither candidate really addressed the issues at hand other than to talk about "change". Ok, I'll vote for change, but what kind of change are you referring to? Is this change to be universal or for a select group?

Lastly, I would like to comment on some of the contradictions that I have heard from everyday people on the street. Within the same conversation I heard one person say that "Obama was elected not based on skin color, but on merits alone". Then the same person said "It is a historic day in America to have the first black president".? Now which one is it. As they say you can't have your cake and eat it too.

This world is in for a bad time I am afraid and it will only get worse, so I for one am getting prepared.

On Obama triumphs, will be first black president

I thought that this post was about sports? Oh yeah, it was until we had a lone dissenter, who did not want to play by the rules. I think this certain person's profile should be removed.

I think the lawsuit was justified. Everyone has the right to live in peace and not be threatened of feel threatened in any way. I have lived in Pike County nearly my entire life, although I did live in Montgomery for a time. I had a case of kids "egging" my car and like a civilized Adult, I went to the parents of the children and stated my case. The parent's "assured" me that thier children would not do anything of the sort, so I let it go. Two weeks afterward, the same thing happened, yet this time I caught them in the act. When I went to the mother with my claim, I was met with a baseball bat. I retreated and came back with a baseball bat of my own. That solved the problem. The only way to communicate with people is to get down to thier level. If violence is all they understand, then you have to resort to it, no matter how harsh it seems. No progress will be made if you just stand back and take it.
