MessengerReader23,

You were raised better than this. I doubt your mother, who dedicated her life to education in this county, would approve of what you are doing.

I was talking to a friend of mine in St. Clair County and their party chair has alreday had every single Republican candidate to St. Clair County to speak. Why hasn't our party done the same? I long for the days when the party in Pike County was run by people from Pike County who were actively involved in getting all of the candidates here to speak to us and help us be informed. Unfortunately, now the county party seems to be run by someone who has his own agenda and his own candidates that he supports and so there seems to be no hurry in getting all of the candidates to Pike County. I think it is time to get the Pike County GOP back to where it was in the late 80s and early 90s and get people from Pike County who care about Pike County to run the party instead of people who are not really from Pike County and who seem to be more loyal to specific candidates than they are making sure the people of Pike County are informed.

It seems off to be to build a walking trail next to a railroad track. That seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I was there last night and I agree that Tim James is an embarassment. He struck me as more of a bafoon that a candidate for Governor. I felt as though I wasted by time by attending. I haven't decided who I am voting for either but it certainly won't be him. He is just a series of one ine statements with no reasoning behind them. A bunch of hot air.

If Tim James and Bradley Byrn are the face of the GOP in Alabama, we have a lot of problems.

Proration is not a system by system issue -- it is a statewide issue and if every teacher in the state, every school system employee statewide increased their payment by $5.00 per month it would more than erase the proration concern. You would get the monthly additional income of $5 for every employee of every school system statewide and you would also get the freed up funds for the equivalent amount that would remain in interest bearing accounts for the duration of each month rather than going to health insurance. You add that all up and you are out of proration. It is simple accounting. When you try to see that over 12 months, each employee would pay $60 and then multiple by the number of teachers and school sytem employees statewide and then take into account that at least a percentage of that money would be put into interest bearing accounts, you have a simple solution. This is a solution that companies use all the time in order to generate interest on short-term gains. The money is put into a sweep account which earns large amounts of interest in teh short-term. That is what is done with the school money. That is how it works

There is no reason for proration. Did you know that most teachers pay less than $20 per month for their health insurance which means that the taxpayer is shouldering almost all of the health insurance costs for all teachers. If the amount that teachers contribute to their own health insurance was raised by $5 per month per teacher, it would get us out of proration and no teachers is going to be hurt by paying $5 a month more for health insurance.

Its great to see these parents taking so much pride in their children. You don't read much about good parents these days and I am glad the Messenger did this story and focused on parents who are supportive of their children. Good job players and good job parents!

I live on Homewood which is 2 streets above Sherwood and regardless of zoning, we have college students throughout our entire neighborhood. I walk every morning and you can see the houses that are occupied by college students on Homewood, Glenwood, and Sherwood. Often they have several cars parked in the street and in the yards, trash in their yards, and a few houses even have sofas on their porches. It is not ignorant to say that college students come with crime and it is not ignorant to say college kids have invaded our neighborhood over the past few years. I have lived here for more than 20 years and I have seen what has happened to this nieghborhood as these college students have breezed in recently. They are taking our nice family friendly subdivision to hell in a hand basket and our property values are going with them

I was appalled and disappointed by Mr. Byrne's commencement address. Those graduates deserved much better than a campaign speech. They also deserved more than someone telling them that this out finest hour and the economy is not that bad and other such nonsense. I wasn't the only one that felt that way. You could look around the auditorium and see the disgust on people's faces and you could hear the groans. After the commencement, I spoke with several parents who were as outraged as I was. The University should make sure nothing like this happens again.
