Why are we building a new arena? The Deer Stand Hill town folk will never show up. This basketball team is horrible. Fire Maestri and Felix now!

BeachGirl: You're continuing to make yourself look childish and stupid. I'm also an Alabama fan. Grew up one since birth (I bet I've put thousands of more travel miles together going to see Alabama football games over the years than you ever have or will), so your petty jabs at Troy with your Alabama crap is silly and irrelevant. What Troy University is currently doing has nothing to do with the University of Alabama.
You made a statement about Troy spending money "strictly on sports arenas". Go back and read my posts and the article. This new arena will not be used strictly for sports. In fact, it will mostly be used for non-sports activities. Why haven't you commented about the new College of Education building, the new state-of-the-art dining hall, the new fraternity row, etc. Are those "strictly" sports arenas? It's quite obvious that we have a lot of jealous haters among us who don't want to see Troy University advance, but it's too bad because there's nothing you can do about it. Troy University has put Troy, Alabama, on the map and will continue to do so well into the future.

What you also need to keep in mind is that this arena will be used for more than sports. It will truly be a multi-use/multi-purpose arena; something that any university Troy's size or larger needs. In other words, it's a necessity, not a luxury. It's not being built in order to add just the additional 1200 seats for sporting events, this place is going to house a lot of new space for meetings/conferences/classes. It's also going to be beautiful and will not be your typical cookie-cutter type of sports arena; it will look something similar to Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke University (only much nicer). As an aside, the new dining hall is also going to be magnificent, and the recently opened education building next to Sartain is the finest of its kind in the state of Alabama by far. I'll say it again: either hop onboard the Trojan Express, or get left at the station. Regardless, with or without you, the Trojan Machine is headed to the top of the mountain.

The arena is badly needed for the advancement of the University. Auburn's new arena is about to open within the next few months. Like Troy, AU has been using that same facility for over 40 years, but Troy's baskeball program is much more stable right now than AU's program (in fact, Troy just beat AU in men's basketball earlier this season) and can easily justify building such a new facility if AU is building one as well. The new Trojan Arena will be a showplace for the University and the city of Troy. You can either hop on board the Trojan Express or get left at the station; it's your choice.

To all of the backwoods naysayers commenting negatively to this new facility - shame on you! I graduated from Troy University in 1998 and it thrills me to see the progress that is being made at my alma mater. This project is LONG overdue. When it is completed next year, it will truly be the gem of the University. Our outstanding basketball program deserves to play in a Division One calibre arena and in addition to basketball and other sports, this facility will launch our University to the next level because it will serve so many needed aspects of the school. It will also serve as a great recruiting tool as well. The local community will also greatly benefit because now the University and city will be able to bring top-of-the-line concerts and other events to this little corner of Alabama.

Congratulations to Coach Maestri, Coach Felix, and the entire team and staff. To win the conference championship in the same conference that the legendary program, Western Kentucky, is a part of is nothing short of awesome!!! Go get 'em in the conference tournament this weekend!

Is this address at 905 University Avenue near the Presbyterian church and the Christian Student Center? I can't place it right off hand.

Troy doesn't need to sign local high school players just for the sake of signing local high school players. You want to fill your roster with athletes who you feel like will give you the best chance to win games. Also, the vast majority of high-profile Divison I-A prospects from Pike County schools want to play elsewhere and Troy University has to take a backseat to that unfortunate dilemma.

It will be interesting to see what frame of mind Ole Miss is in for this game. If the Rebels don't bring much energy and enthusiasm to the game, then the Trojans will have a great shot to pull the upset. I don't expect there to be much of a crowd at the game. NIT first round games usually don't draw good crowds and Ole Miss basketball doesn't have great fan support in the first place. TROY beat Auburn on the road this season, so having already played in an SEC arena should help from a mental standpoint.
