Regis, the reason the headline reads "Booted" is because it is another poor attempt as usual by The Messenger to be cute. What we need is a new publisher at our hometown paper, not some arrogant hermit who hides in the office all day and doesn't involve herself in the real community of Troy. It's no wonder the paper is about to go under and that every employee there is looking for another job.

More important than any gentlemen's agreement is that we have a well-qualified, honest person as our judge. But wake up Pike County - we are so outnumbered that we are being overtaken by Coffee County. It already has two-thirds of the judges and the district attorney. That's likely to continue just because of the population advantage in Coffee County. But we need a judge who lives among us. That answers to the citizens of Pike County. That person should be Clif Haistings. If nothing else, let's see a profile of each of the two candidates who have announced - the choice on credentials alone should make it an easy decision - Haistings wins hands down. .

A good follow up question would have been - "how many new pistol permits has the Sheriff's office issued?". People are tired of ths crap. Personally, I will shoot anyone who threatens me or my family. The war isn't just going on overseas, it's right here in our town.

Back to fannin vs berry - did Fannin pay his own attorney fees or did he ask the judge to award him his fees as part of the judgment? That would be the norm but there is no mention of that. As for voter fraud - don't just throw darts at the DA - what about the attorney general and more importantly the secretary of state - both of whom have election fraud divisions!

Congratulations to the Pike County Republican Women on your charter. Some of these folks have tried to turn this into a racial issue and by responding to their childish, racist remarks, you boost their egos. Joining an organization - any organization- is exercising your right to free speech, free assembly and in some cases freedom of religion. It's your choice. I encourage anyone who wants to join the PCRW to do so. Otherwise - quit complaining or go join one of those non-exclusive groups like the ACLU!

“Anybody who escapes in custody is considered dangerous,” Baggett said.
I think this is a quote from the sheriff.

Spicer has been offered the job but is "in contract negotiations," Translation -I suspect he wants to get paid his salary as superintendent even when he's in Montgomery serving in the Legislature. A Sweet deal, no doubt, if he can work it out But in this case both his students and voters would be losers.

Pike Lib finished the 2008 season as the No.2 team in Class AAA? Funny, I thought if you were state champions you finished #1? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
