Troy men’s basketball faces U-L Lafayette

The Troy University men’s basketball team will open their quest for the automatic bid of the Sun Belt Conference as the 12th seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The Trojans will face fifth-seed Louisiana-Lafayette Wednesday night at 8:05 pm, with the winner earning a trip to Mobile and the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

The game will be carried on WTBF-94.7 FM with Barry McKnight providing the play-by-play Wednesday night.

Pike Lib JV defeats Lowndes Academy

The Pike Lib JV baseball team defeated Lowndes Academy 6-2 Monday.

Martin Meeks picked up the win, pitching 3 and 1/3 innings, coming on in relief of Blake Floyd, who pitched 3 and 2/3 innings to start the game.

Meeks struck out five and walked two, while Floyd sruck out five and walked five.

Nick McLaughlin had two hits – a single and a double – and drove in two runs. Meeks helped his own cause with two RBI.

Evan Strother had a single and an RBI, while Taylor Oliver had a single.

Troy falls to 10th at the USF Invitational

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Troy University men’s golf team slipped in the final round on Sunday of the Ron Smith/USF Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.

The Trojans entered the final round in eighth place, but shot a 301 on Sunday to slip into a three-way tie for 10th place in the 18-team tournament.

&uot;We didn’t play well at all in the first round and dug ourselves into a hole,&uot; head coach Matt Terry said. &uot;But, we came back and played much better in the second round and put ourselves in position to have a good finish.&uot;

Junior Michael McGrady (Harare, Zimbabwe) led the team to a second round 285 with a 67, which tied for the second lowest round of the tournament. McGrady was unable to maintain that momentum through the final round, shooting a 74 on Sunday to slip into a tie for seventh.

&uot;Michael had a chance to win, but didn’t have the kind of round he needed,&uot; Terry said. &uot;We just didn’t show up as a team yesterday and that was disappointing. We have got to find the right combination soon because Middle Tennessee has won two tournaments in a row and they are playing with a lot of confidence.&uot;
