Parent expo Thursday

The Pike County School System will host its second annual Parent Expo Night from 5:30 until 7:30 Thursday night, Sept. 24, at Cattleman Park and all parents are invited and encouraged to attend.
Elizabeth Grubbs, Pike County Schools community education director, said the first Parent Expo Night was such a great success that the event was moved to Cattleman Park to accommodate the anticipated number of parents who will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the school system in general and their child’s school in particular and to receive free, appropriate grade level school supplies.
“Parent Expo Night is a countywide event where Pike County Schools teachers, counselor and administrators have an opportunity to interact with parents from Brundidge, Banks and Goshen schools,” Grubbs said. “We’ll have representatives there from the central office and teachers from each grade level from each school. And, there will also be representatives from community agencies. We want our parents to know that the Pike County Schools are community friendly and that we all have our children at heart.”
“We want to offer encouragement and information to the parents so that they will be knowledgeable about the school system and what we are attempting to accomplish,” Grubbs said. “The curriculum that we use is system wide, so the teacher representatives should be able to answer any general questions that parents might have.”
Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded.
School buses will be available for parents who don’t have transportation to and from Cattleman Park. Pickup stations are Meeksville Fire Station, Shellhorn School, Springhill Chevron Station, Goshen High School, Sun-Trace Mobile Home Park, Pronto Community (Clay Hill Church), Pike County High School and Banks Middle School. Pick-up time for all buses is 4:45 p.m. Thursday.

This was an excellent event last year that promises to be even better this year. Hope there is double the turnout! Thanks to the PC school system for pulling this together.

Wonderful, it seems the county schools are more innovative in getting parents involved. Troy City Schools need to follow your example.
In order to get more parents involved you have to do more than have parent teacher conferences which don't allow parents the necessary time to get to know the teachers and other administrative staff
We often times pay a lot of lip service to strengthening the relationship between students, parents, and teachers.
