CHHS senior Jawara White rushes with the football after recovering a fumble during the Trojans’ season finale against the Northview Cougars on Thursday.

The Charles Henderson Trojans fought until the final seconds of their season as they edged the Northview Cougars 18-13.

With 50 seconds left in regulation, the Trojans were trailing 13-12 and faced a 4th and goal from the Cougar 5-yard line, with no field goal kicker.

Senior K.D. Edenfield connected with his wide receiver Jabari Brown in the left side of the end zone for the go ahead score.

“K.D.’s pass to [Jabari] Brown was a huge play for us,” said Trojans head coach Hugh Fountain.

Brown was Edenfield’s go-to guy with four receptions in the winning drive that went 62 yards in 16 plays.

“The line played great and Brown made three or four great catches,” said Edenfield after the game.

The nail-biter was enough to boost the Trojans to 5-5 for the season finishing with four straight victories.

“Obviously at the end of the season it’s sad no matter how you look at it,” said Fountain. “But for the younger players and for our seniors it’s been an incredible season. They fought back and got it done.”

CHHS fought back Thursday night as well after the division 6A Cougars struck first, scoring the games first touchdown in the second play of the second quarter.

The Trojans’ junior wide receiver Corey Dennis had a big return in the ensuing kickoff and looked to capitalize on the field position.

On first and ten, Dennis got behind the NHS secondary and was hit in stride by Edenfield running 62 yards for the Trojans first points of the night.

After a failed 2-point conversion, however, the Trojans trailed NHS, 7-6

CHHS would score one more time to close out the half when Edenfield threw a 26-yard touchdown pass Senior Roger Toney.

For Toney, it was his first career reception and afforded the Trojans with much needed momentum and a five-point lead.

The second half told a different story as NHS came out strong.

The Trojans had trouble moving the ball early against a stingy Cougar defense and NHS scored six off a fake field goal when NHS quarterback Braxton Chitty found an open Marquez White in the corner of the end zone with 9:27 left to play.

The Trojans did the best imitation of their own season as they could though, and finished strong.

After a three and out followed by a tough defensive stand, CHHS was able to put together the game winning drive as the final seconds of the season ticked away.

“I feel awesome about it,” said coach Fountain.

Congratulations CHHS on the win. CHHS had a very tuff schedule and I believe they were in just about every game. Work hard this off season and get after it next year.

GO PIKE PATRIOTS!

Kicker was down with the flu all week -- couldn't practice. The decision was made to go for two on each play because of that. Nice finish Trojans! Some great clutch catches.
