Head coach Mike Waters discusses strategy with wide receiver Mikey Cox (14) and defensive back Blake Walden (81) .
The Rebels of Zion Chapel are coming off a Homecoming win last Friday against Highland Home, however now are preparing for the last and possibly toughest game of the year, against the Elba Tigers.
“The good Lord finally shined upon us a little,” Waters said about last Friday night’s win over Highland Home.
“It was big win for us. We were able to capitalize on field possession, we didn’t have any turnovers and we didn’t have any penalty yards.”
The win improves the Rebels’ record to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in 2A Region 3.
“These kids have worked hard all season long, despite facing a lot of adversity,” Waters said.
“We have had a excellent week of practice – maybe the best of the year.
“We have a lot at stake, especially this seniors. We will be playing with a lot of pride,” he said.
The visiting Tigers will be looking to go undefeated in the regular season when the team travels to Zion Chapel.
Currently, Elba is 10-0 and 9-0 in 2A Region 2.
“They are the No. 4 team in 2A state,” Waters said. “They are a excellent football team.”
“They have a ton of speed all over the field and three extremely good running backs.
“Offensive yards will be at a premium for us,” Waters continued. “Elba has a defense that does a great of shutting down its opponents.”
Waters said he believes the team will have some momentum heading into the game against the Tigers.
“You always fill good about yourself after a win,” the coach said.
“We know we are the underdog going into the game and we are okay with that scenario. Games like this is why I enjoy coaching,” Waters added.

How can Elba be 10-0 when they have only played 9 games? It shoul be 9-0, and 7-0 in the region. Best wishes to the Rebels! Don't sell yourselves short!
