Kelley faces trial for murder
Second suspect to face jury for 2007 murder of Joey Spikner
Published Wednesday, October 14, 2009
A second person will face trial today for the 2007 murder of Brundidge’s Joey Spikner.
Eddie Mack Kelley will go before a jury today charged with Spikner’s murder nearly a year after Michael Streeter was convicted of the same charge and was sentenced to life without parole in January.
Spikner was killed May 27, 2007, outside of Brown’s Lounge in Brundidge.
A Pike County Circuit Court jury found Michael Streeter guilty of the murder in December 2008 after he shot into a crowd and struck Spikner.
During trial, witnesses placed Spikner in the midst of the crowd gathered outside Brown’s lounge at the time of the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of May 27.
Streeter was a passenger in the vehicle, when he stood up out of the car, aimed his gun over the top and shot into the crowd seven times.
Pike County Assistant District Attorney Larry Jarrell, who will prosecute Kelley, said the prosecution will use the same evidence it used in convicting Streeter.
Kelley was the driver of the blue Crown Victoria in which Streeter and another individual were passengers and was also seen firing a gun. Attorney Jim Debardelaben will represent Kelley.
Trial will begin at 9 a.m. in the Pike County Courthouse with Circuit Judge Jeff Kelley presiding.

It is such a shame to see these young individuals get into situations that cost themselves a lifetime of grief. The Spikner family will experience a lifetime of questions and grief as well.
May the young people of our community be mindful of how their decisions can lead to results far beyond their imagination. I know Mack Kelley from his childhood and he was a very good young man. His older brother served as a mentor for years and his father is a fine man as well. All that being said, the decisions Mack made that placed himself in this situation is going to likely cost him his freedom for many years and the Spikner family will suffer even more deeply.
Anyone who knows the answer to "stop the killing" can step forward at any time !

muledeer....
I could not have said it better myself.
Unfortunately no one has the answer as to how to "stop the killing"...but I too wish there was an answer.
One lapse in judgment....one brief moment in time can cost a life....alter the shooter's life...change the lives of both of the families' involved...and that same moment in time cannot be brought back to change what happened.
For every crime committed....someone is going to have to pay....and it's usually more than one person "paying". One with death....the other for causing that death.

Hmm. Maybe one solution to reduce the murder rate in the US would be to ban firearms, or are least ban handguns.
Thousands of people are victims of gun related homicides every year in the US (~9500 in 2008 with the overwhelming majority being from handguns), and almost 400,000 crimes were reported as gun-related in the US.
Is it sad that many Americans are so adamant about owning guns in the U.S that they obviously feel the murder of almost 10,000 people per year is an acceptable price to pay so that they can own firearms. As for those who claim to own a firearm for protection, FBI analysis shows that in less than 5% of all violent crimes is a firearm used in defense. In 20% of the incidents, the victims were still injured.

Statistics has never KILLED anyone so lets make sure that everyone knows that something is wrong in a family when a kid picks up a gun ( check this out, my son he sees my gun and always want to touch it and then always talk about a gangers wear big chains, pants hang down he think that is just the way)
he or she has seen this in the house by mom or dad one of them have confronted the other about something liar, cheating, and that's when all the other side come out from mom or dad and then the children sees this and get tired of this type of mess .So stop lying about the father was a great man, did he beat the mother and the child seen this, see really alot of this goes on in the house hold of family and thats black and white so lets not get it twisted .
I don't feel sorry for mack because after that he has been in other shoot outs with other peoples attuide is real bad like he just have to have something in return from the world .
Remember while you was going thru your thing the DA was gearing up with your peers get ready to lock you up for the rest of your life, cause he do not like black peoples

I agree with kelley being put away for along time, he was in on doing the crime so let him do the time. As for the guns in the house hole I was raise around guns all my life , now I have close to 15 in my house an every one of them is loaded , That is for me to keep my family safe. My kids have guns also but theirs are not loaded they was thought to shot in the woods not at people, I also told them if they had to pull a gun on some one use it. If some one don't want guns around them then why don't you give them to OBAMA.

So, furthering your analogy inaword, if there were no computers then their wouldn't be any stupid comments on this forum. Problem solved.

i really dont know what to say about this but i guess ill start here.. i know mack and his father personally and i even worked around his father for a little over two years. his father is one of my good friends and mack is a friend of mine as well. i dont know what happened there because i wasnt there and couldnt tell you what all took place. I liked muledeer's comment in the sense that one moment can change the outlook and the future of your life. you may not see it at the time because of anger but your actions will control your future. i understand that in situations when people are angry that things seem to happen and take place faster than the speed of light but someone there had to see what happened other than the ones who have come forward. nobody will truly know what happened other than the good Lord himself and if someone comes forward and confesses their guilt. i just hate that mack got himself in a situation like this cause he's a really good guy. sometimes we end up going down with others by being around in a bad situation but maybe somehow the truth will come out and mack wasn't involved.

The original intention of our Right To Bear Arms was to protect us against Government. Now it has its purpose in our protectection against crack-heads. Either way we need to keep our guns. FoX do yourself a favor and get yourself a gun. You can outlaw them if you want but the bad guys will have them either way. Known some good kids to get involved in situations like this and it seems liqor or drugs are always involved. God bless all the families involved.

it would be a horrid idea to ban guns..it wouldnt solve anything...drugs are illegal but lets face it if yu want them you can find them..the person holding the gun is the problem, not the object..banning guns would mean MORE death and killings since you couldnt protect yourself from the people who get them illegaly...I own a gun. if someone comes in to my house illegally i WILL shoot them. its my right to protect myself...

Guns don't kill people...people kill people
Posted by Bamabunny (anonymous) on October 15, 2009 at 10:31 a.m. (Suggest removal)
troy22 nailed it...and in very few words too.
"Guns don't kill people...people kill people".
Like driving a car. The car is going to do what the driver tells it to do.
I personally own a few guns and I have a concealed weapons permit. I don't carry my gun but if I wanted to I could. My other guns are shotguns that I used to use to shoot trap and skeet.
The problem is putting guns in the hands of people who would use them on someone else without justification.
He "dised me" or "disrespected me" or "he came into my territory" is not justification for shooting someone.
The 3 day waiting period I'm sure puts a dent in the ownership of a gun by unstable people. But if someone that cannot get a gun legally...and if they are determined enough....they will get what they want illegally.

Look at the statistics of countrys who have banned fire arms and also our own Capitol Washington DC. When firearms are banned, the murder rates go up. The people who have gone and gotten a hand gun legally and gotten permits to own a handgun, had them take away from them. The people who murder people, who have stolen the gun or bought it on the black market, still have their weapons, and they know that everone else has had their guns taken away, so they can break in a house with no fear of retaliation so the crime rates go up. Blameing murder on a gun is like blameing a pencil for bad handwriting. Come on! Wake up America!
