University pedestrian struck in hit and run

Published Friday, November 20, 2009

A pedestrian at Troy University was struck by an unknown vehicle, while attempting to cross McKinley Drive late Thursday afternoon.

β€œIt appears she was crossing the street, when a car turned, struck her and left the scene,” said Dean of Student Services Herb Reeves.

The woman struck told university officials she was a student at the university and complained of pain in her arm.

Reeves said no injuries appeared to be life threatening, but she was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center for examination.

No one on the scene saw the driver of the vehicle involved in the hit and run, but Reeves said it was a small, red car.

Andy Ellis, employee at Troy University, was one of the first to pass the scene.

β€œI was leaving work, and I saw a girl laying in the road,” Ellis said. Troy University and Troy City Police were on scene, as well as officials from the Troy Fire Department and Care Ambulance.

It was probably a International Student, they NEVER look to see if anything is coming, they do not use the crosswalk and they WILL run out in front of a car from no where. Either way the driver should have stopped.

A hit and run is a serious offense. Glad the student is ok....it could have been worse.
