New retailer set to open Nov. 21
Published Wednesday, November 18, 2009
A new retail store will open its doors in Troy this weekend.
Tractor Supply Co. will open for business Nov. 21 at 8 a.m.
Store Manager Brendan Scott said he is excited about the opening.
“We’re excited about opening our doors and welcoming customers,” Scott said. “We’re ready to serve our neighbors in Troy and the surrounding communities.”
Pike County Economic Development President Marsha Gaylard said the new company should do well in Troy.
“We’re really excited that Tractor Supply picked Troy as one its new locations,” Gaylard said. “They are a very good company, and we think they will do well here in Pike County.”
The store is located in the Southland Village in the former Goody’s location and has 25,000 square feet, which includes a sales floor and support service space.
Outside the store, there is a fenced exterior, which serves as a display area for large items such as fencing, sprayers and livestock equipment.
Troy’s newest retailer will bring with it 16 new full and part-time jobs.
Tractor Supply Co. is the largest retail farm and ranch supply chain in the U.S., and operates more than 895 stores in 44 states.
An official grand opening will be held in December.
The store offers a wide variety of merchandise including, corral panels, watering equipment for livestock, equine equipment and stalls, feed, livestock immunizations, pond maintenance supplies, pet supplies, bird houses and hummingbird feeders, go carts and UTVs, combine parts, batteries and tires, fuel handling equipment, generators and storm preparations accessories and outdoor equipment.

yeah yeah the Co-Op is still the best place to shop!

The Tractor Supply Co. stores I have shopped at tend to have
higher prices than the Coop. If Tractor Supply has in store credit
cards, it may help their business. Jeffers in Dothan beats them
both pretty badly on prices(if you shop in the store. Shipping costs by mail tends to even things out). At any rate, the added competition should be good for the consumer.

The wal-mart of everything outdoors. I wonder if they are going to try to run everybody else out of business like wal-mart does and then raise prices to make huge profits. Shoul be great for our town. According to our community development people.

I would be suprised if they run the Coop out of business. They would have to have lower prices at the Troy store than other
stores and chains tend to have uniform prices at all stores(even the Coops around Alabama).

Ha! I'll bet they're out of business by 2012! I never understood why they thought Troy would be a good local in the first place...Most of the customers they are targeting have been in Troy all of their lives and as proud citizens, they will continue to put their faith and their money into a localized store. I give the Tractor Supply company 2 years max before they close up shop!

Condemmed before even opening the doors . They are a good store and are fair in their prices . How do you expect Troy to grow and get new retail stores if you take such an attitude . You can at least give them the opportunity to show you what they sell and remember no one is making you shop with them .

The Co-Op is better! Look at the personal service you get!!!!

It is really sad that some are condemning the business before it even opens its doors. If you will take time to go in and talk to the manager, you may find that they will price match even Jeffers advertised prices. That way you can save the gas driving to Dothan. There are some times that you have to be willing to pay a little more for good quality too.

The Co-Op has good quality merchandise! I am not condeming anything but why would you want to try and replace something that has been around more years than you can count!

Well i think it is great that people will have options. No one has to shop there if they don't want to but for people who want options they now have another one.

Before you condem someone for telling the truth, you need to check the prices. For what I purchase monthly, it will amount
to close to a $70.00 savings . Granted, it depends on what you are purchasing sometimes. My statements are based on over 20
years experience(For Tractor Supply the short time it has been in Dothan). I'm not in the business of going into a store and
trying to get them to match another store's lower prices. If the
other store has the lower price, why should I give the 2nd business a chance to match the lower price or the first? I will
definitely be shopping at Tractor Supply, but as always, I will
be looking at prices. They will also have some things Jeffers and The Coop do not.

I agree with mustang89!Because I shop where I get the most for my dollar.

TSC is a good store. Competition in retail is a good thing and I will buy from the co-op as well as TSC. I will definitely check prices and this store is good for the consumer. I have always received good service in TSC as well as the co-op. For 3 point hitch equipment - TSC has very good prices for quality attachments. If Troy is to grow and have more jobs with a bigger tax base - it has to have more stores and TSC is IMO an excellent addition.

I somehow get the impression that tbtr has some connection with the coop... I mean Co-Op.
But I will give TS a try just the same.

correct inaword - the "more than you count" was telling.

i go to wherever my money goes the furthest..if its TSC then thats where ill go..Troy isnt a small town anymore..we have to allow progress..i know other ones have been around for eons for why should they be the only place to go buy things?

I'll guess you never thought Lowe's would have any effect on Hendrick's either, did you Linden? Obviously the "proud citizens of Troy" don't spend as much money as those of us that compare prices & shop for the best buy for our money.

It's really sad the attitude that some people have about the opportunity of growth in this town.

It's good to see the space being put to good use
