Pioneer farmers market opens this Saturday

Published Thursday, May 28, 2009

The wait is finally over for vegetables fresh from the farm.

The Pioneer Farmers Market will open at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 30 behind the First United Methodist Church in Troy.

“This location has worked really well for us the last couple of years, and we are pleased that we’ll be back at again this year,” said Pam Sanders, market manager. “The Pioneer Farmers Market will also be open on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 5 o’clock until.”

Sanders said from five to seven producers are expected on the Pioneer Market first day. “We should have green beans, new potatoes, squash, sweet corn, onions, English peas, peaches and more,” she said. “Remember the producers cannot sell until 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on market days. That gives the producers time to get set up and their produce displayed.” Despite the rainy weather Sanders said the producers are optimistic that this year will be a good market season that will last far into Indian summer.
