PCHS’s Parker heads back home
Published Tuesday, May 26, 2009
All Kasey Parker wants to do is get closer to home. She will do that when she leaves Brundidge Friday on her final day as the Pike County Lady Bulldogs volleyball and girls’ basketball coach.
The Pike County Schools Board of Education accepted Parker’s resignation May 18 and her last day is Friday.
She took a position as the head volleyball coach at Class 6A Smiths Station.
“My mom and dad live in Auburn and I graduated from Auburn so this was just a great opportunity to get back home,” Parker said. “And Smiths Station is known for its girls’ athletics. This is just a good career move for me.”
Parker may be leaving Brundidge after only one year, but she said she has formed some relationships that will last a lifetime in her short time in the city.
“I am going to miss the girls because we developed that good coach-player bond,” Parker said. “I wish them the best of luck in the coming years. I would also like to thank Dr. (Mike) Hall and Dr. (Mark) Bazzell for the opportunity they gave me at Pike County.”
Parker said she would also like to thank all the parents who supported the volleyball and basketball teams.
“I want to thank everyone at Pike County that helped me along the way,” she said.
Moving from Class 3A Pike County to Class 6A Smiths Station was strictly a career move that got her closer to her parents.
“They are a 6A school that has a great girls’ athletic program and this move gets me closer to my family,” Parker said. “It is just a good situation for me.”
Parker will teach health at Smiths Station and her last official day as a Lady Bulldog is Friday.
She said she has to get to Smiths Station before the summer begins for summer workouts.

Is it not weird that both schools in Pike County will have brand new coaches this next year in every sport?!!!? What does that say about our central board. I can't blame Coach Parker for leaving and wish her the best of luck in the future.

How is it in every sport? PCHS hasn't announced any changes in their coaching staff for boys' basketball, baseball, or softball. Yes, we have a new football coach, cheerleading sponsors, and track coach, and will have a new volleyball and girls' basketball coach now that Coach Parker is leaving, but that is only half of our program (well one more than half but still not all). Goshen is only losing a football and girls' basketball coach, again how is that all when they also have a baseball, softball, boys basketball, and track program?
Their reasons for leaving aren't central office related, or school related. In both Goshen and PCHS the reasoning is one to get back home, and another due to family relocation. I can't blame anyone for wanting to be closer to their families, or not allowing a family to be split up just to keep a coaching job.

Well, sorry to let you know, PCHS will have a new boy's head basketball coach and assi coach next year as well. Coach Holland and coach Griffin will not be @ PCHS next year as the Men's Basketball Coaches. ( HOW CRAZY IS THAT) after all they did for the program this is what they get. ( And there not leaving by choice either) some say the new football coach is running them off!! the problem was the football program, not basketball team. they had four basketball players sign to play college basketball this year. the first time scent 1998. the kids really loved both coaches, why run them off. But, that shows you how much they care about guy's who graduate from there!!!! Let them have the girls program at pike county or give them the Goshen men's basketball job, bet they could turn them around. thanks Coach Holland and Griffin for the wonderful job you did this year with our kids. 21-7 area champs and sub regionl champs.

well... it's out, all coaches at PCHS will be new. Hope they get their wish of a great football team, because that is all they care about. Its a shame the children have to suffer because of the instability in the program. Mr. Wright you will be missed too. Hope they get someone like you to take over. If they don't that school will go down hill fast.

I can say after several meetings with Coach Stephenson that the football program is NOT all he cares about. Yes, he is the head football coach but in his own words, he is also the athletic director and takes the position very seriously. He was at several baseball and softball practices and games, he was at cheerleading tryouts, and we currently have one of the largest football teams we have had in years. The kids under his direction and in other sports all talk about how much they like him as well as the other new coaches, and most importantly how much they RESPECT him and the new coaches. We've got to give him a chance. He is working very hard not just to improve the football program but all sports programs at PCHS. He is working not just with the Brundidge community but the entire Pike County community to get them involved in our school. We haven't seen past coaches do that including the Great One. Talk about only caring about football?
I do agree with you bluejackson, without someone like Mr. Wright our school is going to go downhill quickly. I didn't know he was leaving and hope that is just a rumor (please please please say it is). I know alot of people don't like him but it is simply because he is a strong disciplinarian and he doesn't care who the kid is or who their parents are LOL.

not true, if he cared so much about the program how come he's not bring back the basketball coaches. what did they do? the program was going up. and for as the football number, they didn't even have a bring games because they did have enough player.(NUMBER's) where at. until these coaches do right by all sport the programs will go down. how would you like if you kid had to play basketball for a coach who doesn't know basketball or play football for a coach who doesn't know football? it hurt that kids chance of being great at what he likes to do.

I am sorry to see Mr. Wright leaving. I think he was an awesome assist. principal. I believe he made a great improvement in the school in the 4 years that he was there. I am also sad to see Coach Holland leaving. I am not always happy with some of his policies, but my son loved him for 3 years. I also do not see why Doug Holland is gone. For a new coach to be able to do what he is is pretty amazing. I think it makes it even better because he was a hometown boy and could relate to the boys on his team. I guess having a winning season and being basketball coach of the year does not mean a lot to the administration on Pike County. Maybe we can get rid of Dr. Hall and Mr. Bazell and being back some good teachers and coaches when they leave.
My children have done well in the as far as grades go, but I hope the administration does something about the girls athletics this year. The whole softball program was a farce, from beginning to the final banquet.

Well, I'm hoping that he won't be putting coaches in positions they know nothing about. We had enough of that this year in more than one sport. I'll give him benefit of the doubt and hope he's trying to put actual coaches in coaching positions and have them actually on the high school campus, not just fill coaching positions with classroom teachers if that makes any sense.
I hate it about Doug, he's a good person and was an amazing all around athlete himself. He'll still be teaching at the elementary school though right?
I'm with Caravan, Mr. Wright was a great disciplinarian. Some kids and parents didn't like him, but those of us who want a safe and productive learning enviornment appreciated everything he did for the kids.
