‘Dawgs rammed

Pike County’s Ryan Stroud connects with a pitch Monday night in the Bulldogs’ 11-5 loss to area rival Headland in Brundidge.
The Headland Rams ruined the Pike County Bulldogs return to the baseball diamond.
The ‘Dawgs faced the Rams in Brundidge Monday for the first game since Spring Break.
PCHS grabbed a 3-2 lead at the end of the first inning, but lost the game, 14-5.
“We started off playing well, but we had a couple errors at second base that led to a 5-3 lead for Headland,” PCHS head coach Doug Holland said. “But we played pretty good until the third inning.”
Headland scored two in the top of the first inning, but the Bulldogs (5-7, 0-1 AHSAA Class 3A, Area 4) top three in the lineup scored in the bottom half to give Pike County the lead.
Ryan Stroud walked to open the inning, Martin Larkin and Deion Nickson both reached base after Stroud and all three scored to give PCHS the lead.
The Rams scored three runs in the third inning to steal the lead back and never trailed after that point.
They also scored one run in the fifth for a 6-3 lead, but PCHS cut the lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the inning.
Larkin again scored, this time on an RBI single by Jacquez Walker.
Headland put the game out of reach with four runs in the sixth inning and four runs in the seventh inning.
Stroud scored his second run of the game in the seventh on a passed ball, but the Bulldogs were not able to muster any more of a comeback.
Cody Sanders was tagged with the loss for Pike County, as he threw a complete game and allowed 14 runs on 10 hits.
He struck out three batters and walked two.
At the plate, Stroud was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one walk and Larkin scored two runs and had two walks.
Up next for the Bulldogs is a game at Cottonwood today beginning at 3:30 p.m. The ‘Dawgs host Abbeville in a makeup area game Wednesday.
The time will be decided by the end of the school day today.

Good luck this afternoon guys. Don't stress out! When a mistake is made, shake it off, you can't hold on to it and let it overwhelm you. You guys are wonderful baseball players and work great as a team. We are rooting for you. Also, it is so great to see the turnout for the games this year. It is wonderful seeing full bleachers to support our kids. Above anything else, this is what they need, parental and community support.
