What is this?
Ambulance board still in works
Published Thursday, March 12, 2009
It’s been discussed for some time now, but a proposal for the Pike County Commission to form an ambulance board remains on the table.
The board, originally proposed by Commissioner Ray Goodson, is something the commission plans to form in hopes of creating an official sounding board for both complaints and accolades of the contracted service with Care Ambulance.
But County Administrator Harry Sanders said the proposal is really on hold until research by the county attorney is complete.
“We’re kind of still waiting on some information from other counties and Care Ambulance to prepare a recommendation for the commission,” Sanders said.
Some of what they are seeking is how other counties have formed a board, who serves on it and how the board operates, but Sanders said he isn’t certain how much of that has been obtained.
County Attorney Allen Jones could not be reached for comment.
Now, complaints on ambulance service are filtered through the commission, as well as the E-911 Board.
But, if the board is formed, it will be the new public voice for ambulance service in the county.
Sanders said he isn’t sure who would serve on the board, whether it be county residents, commissioners or some of the emergency officials in the county.
“I’m not exactly sure how the board will be comprised,” Sanders said. “At this point, all I can do is speculate.”
The discussion of an ambulance board has been something commissioners have pondered on several occasions, but the proposal resurfaced when the county awarded a renewed ambulance bid to Care last December.
Since the contract has been renewed, Fire Chief Thomas Outlaw, who serves on the E-911 Board, said Care has met its contract requirements, especially in regards to response time.
“I know some people have come up with stuff, but those are just rumors,” Outlaw said. “We always check out any problem, and I have not had any whatsoever. They’ve got a required time to respond, and they either get there when we do or shortly thereafter.”

Why would the commission be waiting on information from CARE?
The make-up of the board should include local citizens and there should not be more than seven board members.

SO, I have heard of the "rumors" people have been saying about Care and everything that has been going on but yesterday I witnessed in front of Walmart there was a wreck. Police officers showed up, fire and rescue were there and luckly no one was hurt becuase it wasn't until AFTER everyone had cleared the road and left the scene about five minutes when I heard sirens, and guess who it was ...CARE. So they just looked around and left when they realized they made it too late. And this is who we want to respond when there is an emergency?

For some reason you try and cover up everything they do like noone sees this.Response time is very critical anywhere and there not providing.. its obvious !! i just cant understand how our officials can make a statement like they have saying there meeting requirements??I am thankful we have other options in the city and county now .

At about 12:45 a motorcycle apparently ran into the back of a car, I started to stop and warn him not to let them call for a helicopter. $15,000 from Troy to Montgomery and the insurance will not pay for it. 13 minutes dose seem like a long time, did you start counting from the time you called, but then you said SAMETHING HAPPENED. I personally do not care for Care, if they had taken a little longer all my troubles would have been over. From my own experience you would be surprised at the number of people that will stand around without making a call for help. We could always go back to the old way and let the local mortician run the ambulance service.
O to save going back on line I did not stop because the sheriff was standing there.

Just remember friends we can do something about this. The next time your at the voting polls just think about what your leaders have done for you. Also remember who has supported who and send them a thank you letter.

We have care staying in our fire dept. in Brundidge now maybe with a little luck they can respond faster, I just want them to get out an ride to get to know the roads around town an in the county. Care ask if the Fire dept would let them stay during the day we voted to let them come on a trial , When the city ask Haynes they wanted the city to pay them to put a unit in Brundidge, until futher notice take you care for comming to Brundidge. We needed a unit here for the older people in town an a better response time.

ilovefood - I was at KFC and it did take longer than 2.5 minutes for Care to get there. The fire truck, 3 policeman, the sheriff and another emergency vehicle was there, but no Care ambulance. I was there longer than 5 minutes waiting to make the turn. Someone lied to turtlebug.

Um...you realize that most of what you are saying is slander because there is no basis for whatever you are telling - I hope you know what you're doing and saying! (Nobody lied to me - I think you're just seeing things :p )
