BELGRADE, Serbia — Former Troy University women’s basketball player Amy Lewis helped lead Australia to an opening game victory over Japan, 112-69, at the 25th World University Games Wednesday.
Lewis poured in 18 points for Australia, including hitting both of her 3-point attempts on the day.
She finished the game shooting 80 (8-of-10) percent from the floor for her native country. She also collected four rebounds and collected three steals.
Current Trojan, Alyce Shearing, saw time for Australia but did not score in the opening game in Group B.
Australia takes on Slovakia, an 85-79 winner over Canada, tomorrow in Group B action. A victory by Australia would put them at the top of the group with a 2-0 record.
