Trio charged in burglaries

Published Sunday, January 18, 2009

Three men have been taken into custody in connection with a string of home burglaries in Brundidge during the last few weeks.

“In the past eight days, we’ve experienced several burglaries in the southeast part of the county,” said Sheriff Russell Thomas. “We’re hopeful this will stop or significantly reduce the number of burglaries we’ve been experiencing.”

Jermaine Flowers, Peter Jackson and Terrell Johns have been charged with burglaries of at least three homes, said Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.

Flowers, 35, of Springhill; Jackson, 25, of Brundidge and Johns, 21, of Troy, face charges of burglary third degree and receiving stolen property for burglaries that began on Jan. 8 and ended Jan. 15.

“They are charged with burglary third degree for a residence located on County Road 4430 (Tennile Road) in Brundidge,” Thomas said. “In this particular residence, the three traveled there to burglarize the residence. They kicked open the door, activated the alarm and then left that residence.”

Immediately after, Thomas said the three allegedly traveled to another home on the edge of Coffee County.

“They kicked open a door, gained entrance to the residence and took a Bwalt air compressor,” Thomas said.

Thomas said deputies also recovered a shot gun and a widescreen TV, which were taken from a home on Jan. 8, where the back door had been forced open.

Other instances like this that have occurred during the last week are still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

granny804 this happened out in the county and in Brundidge,TPD had nothing to do with it.

They'll be out and back on the streets in no time commiting the same crimes and worse.

Listen to a scanner sometimes ghost. You will hear the various agencies arguing over who's jurisdiction something is sometimes for up to an hour before anyone will respond. Anyone find the age discrepency between these three men odd? There always seems to be an older one and then a couple of younger ones with at least a ten year age difference. Weird.

I understand that ghost, I'm just posting what I have heard myself listening to scanners with our local law enforcement. I understand needing to know which jurisdiction something is in but why would they waste time arguing rather than respond and help out? I don't know. I just keep my nose clean and make it known that trouble makers and their friends aren't welcome near me, my home or my family so luckily all of my dealings with PCSD, TPD, and BPD has been on the friend level, family reunions, and high school reunions.

I need to get a scanner.

I'm sure that Showdown is directing investigations and in true form...a "guiding light" for all police departments.

HIYO SILVER AWAAAAAAY!

I'll sleep tonight!

Haha. I like what you tell your kids ghost. I always tell my daughter if you wouldn't do it front of your parents or grandparents why do it at all because a) it is either morally wrong or b) it is legally wrong. So far so good with her. Oh, and thank you for your past service ghost.

ghost, turtle is right,I have family in law enforcement in another county and you hear that all the time on the scanner in Pike county.Your right the sheriff is the highest ranking law officer in a county but in Pike county they won't even stop a speeder. But most of the time they all do a pretty fair job.

bamabunny, get a scanner, you will enjoy it and want believe what all the TPD is ask to do.You will need a copy of the 10 code and if you can get them you need the status and singles codes to really keep up with what is going on.You will see as I am sure turtle will tell you why they are not always Johnny on the spot because they do alot more than normal police work.(unlocking cars etc, etc.)

A burglary is very scary for homeowners. It is your safe-haven. While I won't be quick to judge that these three are responsible for all of the break-ins, I do hope that all of the various home-owners' belongings are recovered.

ghost, your right it is the higher up that want it done, some towns have stopped unlocking cars because if they damage the car in anyway people want the city to pay for it.What gets me is I have heard where a patrol car has to drive for miles to unlock a car setting in someones yard.I don't know how many people know this but if you have those automatic lock deals on your key ring and some you else has one for your car all you have to do is call them on your cell phone and get them to click it into the phone and it will unlock your car.But back to my point the officer is doing things like that and people complain because they didn't get to an emergency soon enough.

Does sound interesting WDM. I may have one in storage downstairs too.

Thanks <s>

WDN

I agree with you WDM. One of the charms in living in a small town such as Troy...is that the police are willing to help where they can even unlocking a car door.

But I would like to think that they would not respond to a locked car when there was an emergency at the same time.

Have you heard anything like that on your scanner?

Posted by BOOMERSOONER (anonymous) on January 19, 2009 at 8:13 a.m. (Suggest removal)

Bamabunny, I do have a scanner and listen to them as well. I have heard them send a deputy or officer to unlock a car then hold off and send him to the higher priority call when both come in close to the same time. If I am not mistaken not many Law Enforcement agencies unlock cars anymore. So I am thankful that they still do.

Bamabunny no if they get another call they respond if it is an emergency. My point was they are doing those type things as ghost said PR people complain because it may take them longer to get to you then the person that had called to get their car unlocked complains they didn't get to them in time. The TPD can't win in Troy you read it on this board just like I do.

WDM and Boomer....

Well glad to hear that. I always thought the TPD did their best. I have never seen otherwise from them.

I think back to my home town and town police years ago. There were a few bad apples that made the department look really bad.

Yes, police officers do protect us. Very Good.

Troy Messenger is a rag and a joke. They allow people like Showdown to use profanity, insult others who comment, and ruin what could be a decent forum. Shame on you Troy Messenger. If you don't like this go ahead and delete my account and keep your precious Showdown.

It's true the Sherriff's Department is seeing all over Pike County, they have their jobs to rather than running down speeders, that's why we have city police officers, and the State Troopers to take care of that, the Sherriffs Dept. can go anywhere in Pike County, but the Police have to stay in their jurisidition.
