Taste of Pike a perk for local businesses
Published Thursday, February 26, 2009
The Pike County Chamber of Commerce is offering an economical and effective way for businesses to advertise their products and services during these uncertain economic times.
The Chambers’s annual Taste of Pike County expos is slated for 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 5, and for a nominal entry fee, businesses have the chance to reach an average of 1,000 Pike Countians who come to the expo each year.
From restaurants offering free samples from their menu to garden supply stores to gift shops to banks and local industries, the Taste of Pike County showcases the diversity of our local market and reminds us just what is available here.
And savvy business owners recognize the importance of continuing to advertise their products and services right now.
A McGraw-Hill Research study analyzing 600 companies from 1980-1985 [1981-1982 saw one of the worst U.S. recessions in history] found that businesses which maintained or increased advertising spending during the period had significantly higher sales after the economy recovered. Those which advertised aggressively had sales 256 percent higher than those which did not continue to advertise.
Moreover, businesses who cut back on advertising and promotion found the costs to regain market share once the economy rebounded to be four to five times what they had spent previously.
So kudos to the Chamber for continuing to give our businesses the chance to advertise through the Taste of Pike County expo. And for those businesses who haven’t signed up yet, a limited number of spaces remain available today. Call the Chamber at 566-2294 to register.
And for everyone else, be sure to come out on Thursday to enjoy the Taste of Pike County.

Anybody know where this is being held? Apparently the Messenger assumes we all know because they did not mention it.
