Allstate Beverage to close doors

Published Tuesday, February 10, 2009

A business that has stood in Troy for more than 30 years announced it will close its doors permanently in the coming months.

Allstate Beverage Company, which serves a supplier and warehouse for the area, will close its warehouse in Troy sometime between March and April.

But, General Manager and Sales Manager Steve Andrews said that doesn’t mean the company will stop doing local business.

“Our inventory won’t be here,” Andrews said. “We still want to be here to support the community.”

Still, the closing of the warehouse may leave some 10 people without jobs in the coming months.

“Our sales team here will still be the same employees,” Andrews said. “The only people affected will be warehouse employees.”

After a merger between the Allstate Beverage Company and Gulf Distribution, Andrews said the Troy store will close and the sales employees will move to Montgomery. In addition, Andrews said some of the warehouse employees may be transferred to that store.

Andrews said the close does not come based on his decision.

“I hate it worse than anything,” Andrews said.

Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford said this move only adds to concern of several other businesses that have already announced closing their doors.

“We hate to see any business leave Troy,” Lunsford said.

But, fortunately, he said their loss should not contribute to any more decreases in sales tax revenues, since the company will continue to supply to local vendors.

“The biggest impact on us is the loss of utilities,” Lunsford said.

troyguy28 needs to proofread what he wrote. The article clearly spells "utilities" and not "utilizes"

Beg to pardon but troy guy28 was correct . I checked the Messenger first thing and that was the spelling given . They came back and corrected it later.

I am glad the Mayor cares about utilities so much and not the HUMANS that will be losing their jobs. It's all about the money out of HIS pocket.

Does this mean the price for Miller Lite will go up? That is not a good thing. ;)

Thanks Elvis! WDM & Muledeer thanks for your comments:)
Did it occur to you that the Messenger changed the misspelling after I pointed it out?

i didnt know the mayor owned utilities either....get a life....and thats definetly not what he meant by the comment...he is saying the biggest loss for the city will be in supplying utilities to the building and wasnt even talking about the people...of course he cares about them

troyguy28 isn't just complaining...I read article after article with common spelling errors. If I catch it on the 1st time reading it, you would think after proof-reading, a journalist would catch it. (Sorry Troy Messenger! You guys should read over an article before submitting it!)

Thanks to you TroyAlumna! Yea I'm not complaining, I'm simply pointing out obvious mistakes that should have been corrected before print. Simple as that.
I've read many articles from the Messenger with errors(more than there should be). I enjoy the articles and the majority of them are full of good information.

You people need to do some research on who sits on the Utilities Commission and who gets PAID to do so. Then come back with your ridiculous comments. No, he doesn't own it, but he does profit from it.
