Pet photo calendars support Humane Society

Published Friday, December 18, 2009

The Humane Society of Pike County has a “bright” idea for those near-to-the-last minute stocking stuffers -- 2010 Pet Photo Calendars featuring more than 150 of the most loved and most appreciated pets in Pike County.

The Pet Photo Calendar is an annual fundraiser of the Humane Society of Pike County and all of the funds raised support the society’s animal population control and educational programs. The calendars are $10 each.

Lisa Howard, calendar chair, said the calendars make great Christmas gifts for any animal lover. “The cover features Brandy Grace, a rescue cat from Quincy, Ohio, that belongs to Kenny and Elaine Pinckard,” Howard said. “Brandy Grace received the most one-dollar votes in the Pet Photo Contest.

“The cat was a year old and pregnant and without hair when a Quincy couple took her into their home,” Howard said. “They nursed her back to health and put her picture on the website they have for all their rescue animals. While surfing the Internet, Kenny and Elaine came across the picture. They made arrangements to give Brandy Grace a new, permanent home.” The 12 pets that received the most votes are featured at pets of the month. All pets that were entered in the contest have their photos on the calendar.

“It’s a fun calendar and I’m sure most people will find the pets of a friend or neighbor featured,” Howard said.

The Pet Photo Calendars are available at stores in Brundidge, Goshen and Troy. Locations in Brundidge are Rue’s Antiques, Jones Animal Clinic and First National Bank and in Goshen, Troy Bank & Trust at the Goshen Farmer’s Co-op.

Troy locations include Sisters, Troy Animal Clinic, Trojan Animal Clinic, Terra Cotta, The Little Framery, On the Square Antiques, Guynn’s Bookkeeping, Dairy Queen and Troy Bank & Trust.
