A Florida woman has been charged with DUI, after her vehicle collided with a motorcycle late Monday causing serious injury.

Tanya Perez, 31 of Springhill, Fla., was taken into custody by Alabama State Troopers Monday night, said Trooper Spokesman Kevin Cook.

Cook said it is believed Perez, driving a 1997 Ford, was traveling on the wrong side of the road, when her vehicle struck the motorcycle of Elba’s Terry Williamson.

“Initial investigation indicates she was on the wrong side of the road and alcohol was a factor,” Cook said.

Williamson, 43, was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center from the scene then airlifted to Baptist South in Montgomery, after Cook said one of his legs was severed in the incident and another badly injured. Perez was not injured.

Cook said he did not know the status of Williamson’s injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Perez was admitted in the Pike County Jail at 11:40 p.m. Monday.
