A Troy University student has been arrested on charges of rape, after he was indicted by a Pike County Grand Jury last month.
Stephen Paul Knighton, 23 of Enterprise, was taken into custody by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department Monday for an incident that allegedly took place Feb. 5.
“He’s charged with rape in the first degree after action by the grand jury,” said Pike County Assistant District Attorney Tom Anderson.
Knighton will face trial for allegedly raping a 21-year-old Troy University student in Pace Hall, a dormitory on campus.
Anderson said the victim was Knighton's girlfriend at the time the incident occurred.
Knighton has also been charged previously with domestic violence third degree, stemming from the same incident, and university action has been taken against him.
Herb Reeves, dean of student services, said while the school did take disciplinary, his charges are not public.
No trial date has been set at this time.

That wasn't very bright, raping the girl-friend of the assistant district attorney.

She wasn't the girlfriend of the assistant DA, she was the attacker's girlfriend.

Poorly worded. It does sound like the victim is the ADA's girlfriend.

Unbelievable. How could that get by a "professional" writer and her editor?!

I sure hope all the facts come out clearly on this. In a recent case that involved a rape charge in our area, I heard an alternate juror say he would not have convicted the individual. The facts just didn't support the charge was his words.
That being said, NO means NO. I hope the alleged victum and her family are handling all of this okay! Best to them!

it'll be like any other rape that occurred when i went there. Itll be pushed under the rug after a minute and never talked about. Im really surprised it even made it to the paper. I know of 2 that happened when i was a student there and they never made it to the paper. it was well hidden..

The messenger must have a problem with homosexual atheist. My lawyer will love to hear that all my comments are being discriminated against because of my sexual orientation. What happened to freedom of speech? What happened to freedom of expression?

thanks BNB..its sad but true though...as far as education its a wonderful place, but these days they are more concerned with getting hero worship for football when they need to worry about the safety of their student population. Its a scary thing when a huge school has their priorities wrong..

I hope that when this goes to trial that the victim has the strength to endure....and that she has good support from friends and family.
A defense attorney is going to be tough on her since she was the girlfriend of the accused at the time this happened. Unfortunately that always seems to be the way things go like this.
But as Muledeer said "NO means NO!"...even if it was her boyfriend at the time.
I wish for the best outcome possible and a fair judgment when this goes to trial.
My prayers for the victim.

As an ex GF of the supposed rapist, I can honestly say that I DON'T DOUBT this accusation. I hope Troy University stands tall and admits to the flaws of their school. This student represents them and not only that, he represents a highly recognized fraternity as well which I hopes takes this issue into consideration. Justice needs to be served once and for all. There is no beauty in violence against women!!
