Trojans enter non-region, host Theodore Bobcats
Published Thursday, September 25, 2008
The Charles Henderson Trojans are looking to heal the wounds from last week’s loss at Valley. They are back at home in the familiar territory of Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium, but they are hosting another tough opponent in Class 6A Theodore.
Theodore (3-1) will make the three-hour trip from the Mobile area to Troy to face off with the Trojans (3-1) and they will bring a talented football team.
“They are a very good football team,” Trojans head coach Hugh Fountain said.
Theodore features an offense with a strong tendency to run first, but the Bobcats can take the ball to the skies as well.
“They do a good job throwing the ball,” Fountain said. “Their quarterback is explosive, but it all centers around their running back.”
That running back is Justin McCrary. McCrary stands at 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs in at around 240 pounds.
“We have got to try to limit their running back,” Fountain said. “He is a big boy.”
Theodore puts McCrary in the backfield all alone in their one-back formation, and so far this season he has gotten the job done averaging almost 140 yards per game.
The Bobcats defense is also a strong point, according to Fountain.
Theodore returned nine of 11 defensive starters from last season, featuring linebacker C.J. Mosley. Mosley is a 6-foot-3 junior that weighs in at 215 pounds. He has been heavily recruited by SEC schools, according to Fountain.
“Their defense is tough,” Fountain said. “They are exciting to watch. They get after it every play.”
The Trojans are looking for a win this week to boost confidence that can carry them through the rest of the season. Fountain said the Trojans hope to bounce back against Theodore so they can get back to region play on a positive note.
“We really didn’t have a good practice on Tuesday, but the rest of the week has been good,” Fountain said.
The Trojans were repairing battle wounds for the most part on Tuesday from the Valley game, and that slowed the pace of practice considerably. The positive side of that for the Trojans is that none will be held from action on Friday because of injury.
“The attitudes have been good,” Fountain said. “They’ll have to prove this week that they can bounce back against a tough opponent. If you have a good team, a loss will make you better.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.
