Brundidge Troy University alumni chapter to reorganize
Published Monday, September 22, 2008
The Brundidge Chapter of the Troy University Alumni Association will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, at the American Legion building on Highway 231 south of Brundidge. The meeting will be an effort to bring back the spirit that kindled the chartering organization.
“When we first organized, we had the largest chapter in this area with 160 members,” said Randy Ross, charter president. “We were active and strong for a long time and then we started to drift from a tight organization to loose groups of individuals. However, we didn’t waiver in our support of Troy University. We just didn’t band together the way we did in the beginning. This meeting on Thursday night is an effort to get back together so we can support our favorite university as a strong organization of Brundidge alumni and friends.”
Ross said many people in the Brundidge area are proud graduates of Troy University and many others are strong supporters of the local university.
“Troy University is our university,” Ross said. “We all take great pride in the growth of Troy University over the years in academics, athletics and the arts. In Pike County, all roads lead to Troy University.”
The meeting of the Brundidge Chapter of Troy University alumni and friends will be attended by several university representatives, including Faith Ward, director of alumni affairs, and Dr. Jean Laliberte, associate vice chancellor for development.
“Dr. Laliberte will be the featured speaker and will bring us up to date on all that Troy University has to offer and the importance of alumni support to a growing university,” Ross said. “She will also be available to answer any questions that anyone might have.”
Hot dogs and all the trimmings will be served so that alumni and friends can enjoy the fellowship that comes when Trojans get together.
“You’ve got to eat anyway so we invite everyone to join us for supper and then stay around to find out how we can better support Troy University as a strong alumni and friends organization,” Ross said. “Even if you can’t stay long, come by for a few minutes, meet the university representatives and show your support for Troy University.”
Membership dues are $15 for individuals and $25 for families.
“There is no age limit on membership and we welcome young Trojans,” Ross said. “They are the future of Troy University.
