Teams from all across the Troy area and beyond enjoyed a softball tournament at the Troy Sportsplex Saturday. The Troy Parks and Recreation Department hosted the event and many girls were out of the Sportsplex fields enjoying some fall softball.

The Troy Sportsplex did not showcase the usual fall suspects like football and soccer, but instead showcased a softball tournament and some nice weather. Troy hosted the 2008 12 & Under Fall Softball Classic. The tournament was a round-robin style of play.

“I like playing softball this time of year because of the weather,” Kailee Taylor said. “We want to win the whole tournament.”

The weather was a lot cooler than the summer time when the teams are in normal season action.

“We have a good team,” Ellie Barron said.

Barron and Taylor play for the Patriots. The Patriots are a travel team from Troy.

“Everybody peps each other up,” Barron said. “We just all have good attitudes and love softball.”

Most of the Patriots played softball in the Troy recreation system, and made it to state in the tournament play back in July.

“We had about a month off between tournament team and travel ball,” Barron said.

The Patriots were having a good day on the diamond on Saturday, winning their first game 8-2.

“We were hitting real good,” Kayla Benton said. “Our defense played really good too.”

For some, softball has a season, but to these girls it is a year-round affair and they love the game.
