Email warns of home invasions
Published Thursday, October 2, 2008
Troy University students received an e-mail on Thursday morning warning of home invasions in the Troy area after several incidents occurred on Wednesday.
The e-mail stated different scenarios of how the robberies occurred, but suggested that they may be tied together.
“The City of Troy experienced several home robberies (Wednesday), some of which impacted Troy University students. The intruders knocked on the doors and gained entrance under false pretenses of stating that they were looking for someone or had vehicle trouble,” said Dean of Student Services Herb Reeves.
Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough confirmed there were incidents that occurred on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
“We are investigating right now,” Scarbrough said.
Scarbrough would not comment further, saying the incidents were still under investigation.
Reeves encouraged all students in the campus-wide e-mail to be certain of who is knocking at the door of their residence.
In an unrelated case, Troy Police made two arrests in connection with a burglary that occurred on Aug. 19.
In other news concerning home invasions, Troy Police made two arrests in connection with a burglary that occurred on August 19th.
Ledriquos Rashad Maddox, 18, of Troy was arrested on September 30th and charged with third degree burglary.
Adrian Demond Gillis, 19, of Troy was also arrested on September 30th and charged with third degree burglary.
The two were arrested for the incident that occurred on August 19th.
Items reported stolen were a video game system, a cell phone, cameras and an MP3 player.
“The incident occurred while the victim was at work,” Scarbrough said. “Police have recovered some stolen property and continue to investigate.”
The pair was arrested on a warrant signed through the City of Troy, and they were later transferred to the Pike County jail.
Troy Police urge anyone to contact them if they suspect any suspicious activity at 566-0500 or the Secret Witness Line at 566-5555.

Sad that kids that age...who are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong...yet make the choice of stealing from others and ruin their lives and chances to succeed. A bad start for success.
The only job that they will be eligible for will be mopping a prison floor.

They don't care about the difference between right and wrong. Society has become "all about me no matter what". If someone has something someone else wants they steal it, they don't care. It's time for parents to become parents again and teach their kids to earn what you want and not take from others who have, and discipline them when they do wrong.

Bah, theft is nothing new. Times are no worse now than they were 50 years ago. But if Troy Police Department is arresting theives, maybe they should start with the Troy Police Department employees.

That is very true Turtle. Family values at times seem like a thing of the past.
You know something we don't Murph?

turtle,I agree in part with what you say but we all know people that raised their kids by the book, did everything right but their kid turned out wild, theives, dopehead, etc.so it isn't always the parents fault.Have a great weekend!

I guess we all take chances with our kids. Meaning we do our jobs in the best ways we know how and hope for the best.

The only difference in what these kids did and the direction our government is headed in is legality! It is really scary.

I can feel compassion for someone stealing a loaf of bread from a store if they are hungry when no food is available to them. It's still not right but I understand it. But to break into someone's house or car and steal items such as electronic equipment and help themselves to whatever is in front of them...is totally different. Some people make a living out of it...and more times than none...it's drug related. God forbid the owner confronts them...then a more serious scenario erupts.
At times even government is inappropriate...like using our Social Security money and giving our money to illegal aliens. They find loop holes where they can.
For WDM.
Those people who had poor parenting and turned out to be successful and good honest people...I applaud them too.
