Work on 231
Published Saturday, November 29, 2008
The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin roadwork on U.S. 231 in Brundidge Monday morning.
According to a news release from ALDOT, the project will begin north of Highway 93 in Brundidge and extend to the west city limits.
The project will entail planing, resurfacing and painting traffic stripes on the 2.17 miles of Highway 231.
The roadwork is scheduled to be completed within 40 business days.
Traffic signs will be erected to help assist motorists with traffic.
ALDOT reminds drivers to reduce their speed and use caution when traveling through and around the equipment and workers.

Personally, I believe that the construction could have been timed better. At the 231 & 167 intersection the construction company had traffic tied up before Thanksgiving fom 7:30 am until well after lunch. I work very near by and saw no work being done until after noon even though the lanes were blocked off and traffic was snarled. Could it be that the company doing this work got angry because they had to redo part of their work and decided to show the the people of Troy their displeasure??? Personally - I think that was the case. Do it right the first time and just as a suggestion to the engineers, use concrete like the one at Henderson highway and 231. Have you noticed that it is under repair far less often??

I know I felt frustrated just coming back from Wal-Mart. I cannot imagine the frustation losing time while traveling or coming home from a day's work and having to sit in traffic.
Reminds me of gridlock in California on the freeways. A normal 15 minute ride on a Sunday morning would take 45 minutes to an hour through the work week.
Not as bad in Troy of course but still frustrating on 231.
