Time to end political divisiveness

Published Monday, November 3, 2008

Dear Editor:

It seems the political climate in our nation has been more divisive than any I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. We call ourselves a Christian

Nation, but it seems we have shown the world how selfish, greedy and deceitful we can be .I was at a social function recently when a comment was made and the “N” word was used.

The only person there who was African American was a young lady about the age of my daughter. I could tell it hurt her deeply and I wanted to go over and hug her and say it would be alright.

But things are not alright with a lot of people in this country. I have heard a lot of people who are supposed to be Christians make some pretty nasty comments lately.

These comments have come from both sides of the political landscape. My Bible teaches me to love all people, no matter what their station in life may be. As we watch the stock market decline and our children march off to war, our leaders seem to be disconnected with the real problems at hand. The problem is that we have become so self centered and greed that we don’t care about the needs of others anymore.

Until we unite as a nation and start looking to God for answers we will continue to make a downward spiral. The challenges for the new president will be overwhelming without the total commitment of all the American people. It cannot be done unless we unite and commit to making this a better place for all our people.

So no matter who you vote for be sure to pray for our leaders and let them know how you feel about decisions they are making in Washington.

This country belongs to the people and not politicians. An old timer once told me, “Our leaders are only as good as the people they represent,” so don’t sit there complaining, get up and start doing something for the good of humanity.

It’s about time we start living up to the words, “Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

I fully agree with your letter. We who expect to go to heaven must remember that all people have the choice of heaven. One thing that I've tried to teach my children is to befriend everyone. If we can't live in harmony on this earth, we won't have the chance to make heaven.

There are always going to be people who speak negativity and ones who speak positivity. I feel that to attempt to take this country back to the greatness it once was , the positive folks need to keep being positive and continue to do what we know is right and not let negativity affect us to the point that we give up and join them without even being aware of it. By this I mean not to feed into their negativity. I love people and have always been a positive person and all kinds of people all over this country love me as well. I'm a living testemony of God's love. Let's all be!

The divisiveness is caused by those who deny that we are a Christian nation. The current leadership came to power at all levels by putting voters into groups, and then telling those groups that some other group is responsible for their problems. A community organizer, turned freshman senator, then U.S. president in the space of 5 years is well aware of this tactic. A community organizer exist to tell the community that some corporation or large entity in there community is the reason for their problems. Once the people are ready for action, the organizer steps in as leader and in a hero's fashion, "gets even" with the corporation or entity that has supposedly done wrong by the people. Our president leads in his new role by using these same tactics. As I type this post the president is speaking about someone using a private jet, while the crowd goes into an uproar. Divisiveness is exactly the political climate that our leaders want in this country. When groups of people are pitted together and are led to believe that other groups have caused any hardships in their lives, it causes people to vote based on emotion. This is how a radical can get elected to the highest office in the land. If a politician can make you believe that you are miserable, then make you believe that someone else caused your misery, and finally convince you that he will get that person who has wronged you, he wins. The evidence that he sat in Rev. Wright's church for 20 years or is a friend of a terrorist will not dissuade your support or even matter. This kind of thing has happened throughout history almost immediately after it is forgotten.

I think everyone is missing the point about divisiveness. Arm in arm, singing kumbayah is not the answer.

I would encourage each of you to read the article at this link http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/01/w.... I think you will come away with a different conclusion.
