PLAS girls grab win, boys fall

Published Monday, December 1, 2008

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots had all four of the basketball teams in action against the Taylor Road Academy Tigers on Monday night.

The Lady Patriots varsity team defeated Taylor Road 64-42.

Leading the Lady Patriots on the court was Katie Wiggins with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Eady Pinckard added 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Josie Griffin sank 11.

"They were a little sluggish to start with," head coach Steven Kilcrease said. "Offensively I was real pleased. Defensively we struggled at times. They played well inside tonight."

The boys' varsity game outcome wasn't what the Patriots had hoped for against the state's second ranked team.

Taylor Road took the win against the boys team 84-52.

Justin McLaughlin led the team in the losing effort with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Ross Hixon added 15 points, and Jared Henderson posted six for the guys' team.

The junior varsity teams split as well except just the opposite of the varsity squads.

The junior varsity boys won a close contest against the Tigers 29-27.

Nick McLaughlin led the JV Patriots with 20 points and 21 rebounds.

McLaughlin also posted two blocks and four steals.

Stewart Pinckard, Rodney Griffin and Chandler Avant added three points each.

The JV girls lost their game, but a score was unavailable.
