Elkin Bragg Carter, Jr.

Funeral services for Elkin Bragg Carter, Jr., 54, of Eufaula was held Monday, November 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Eufaula. Dr. Ken Bush and Rev. Jimmy Blanton officiated and burial was in the Georgetown Cemetery with Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. Mr. Carter died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Mr. Carter was born February 28, 1951 in Dothan. He was the son of Elkin B. and Sadie Carter of Georgetown, Georgia. Mr. Carter was self employed with his father at Gala Gas Company for 21 years. He owned B. G. Outdoors for the last three years. He worked as a pharmacist with Price Drug Store for 10 years. Mr. Carter was a graduate of Georgetown High School and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He was past Chairman of the Lakeside School Board of Trustees. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eufaula where he served as a Deacon, Choir member and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors other than his parents include his wife; Anne Dykes Carter of Eufaula; two daughters, Laurel Carter (Blake) Motley and Claire Carter both of Eufaula; sister, Cynthia (Henry) Balkcom of Georgetown; mother and father-in-law, James Frank and Lois Shipman Dykes of Brundidge.

Active pallbearers will be James Sleadd, Jerry Gulledge, Jimmy Lockwood, Jim Gardner, Kenny Childree, Buddy Hamm, Paul Threatt and Durwood Graddy.

Willie Mae McGuire Slaughter

Services for Willie Mae McGuire Slaughter, 53, of Troy will be at 1 p.m. November 15, 2005 at First Missionary Baptist Church in Troy with Rev. George Gilchrist, Jr. officiating.

There will be a memorial service from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Church Cemetery under the direction of Harrison Funeral Home of Troy.

Mrs. Slaughter was born December 25, 1952 in Pike County. She attended the Pike County Public School System. Mrs. Slaughter was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Slaughter, Jr.; son, Stevie Newson of Troy; daughter, Veronica Starks (Berdex) of Brundidge; mother, Willie Queen McGuire of Troy; father, J. D. McGuire of Cleveland, Ohio; stepson, Demtricus Berry; grandmother, Minnie Lee Roberson; two step grandchildren; five grandsons; two granddaughters; seven sisters; four brothers; five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Floral bearers will be friends of the family.
