CHHS beats Selma

The Charles Henderson Trojan baseball team took on Selma High School in the Stanhope Elmore Invitational Monday.
The Trojans battled through a tough game through five innings but Clint Pugh came in to shut Selma down and earn the save as Charles Henderson pulled away for a 14-5 win.
Pugh came in with two runners on in the fifth inning and only one out and Charles Henderson clinging to a 7-5 lead. He struck out two batters in a row to end the threat.
The Trojans scored seven runs in the bottom of the inning and Pugh retired the next six batters in order. He struck out four of the eight batters he faced while earning the save.
Pete Van Horn collected the win, allowing five runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. Of the five hits, four were singles and one was a home run. Van Horn struck out six but also walked several and hit two batters.
The Trojans scored four in the first inning behind a three-run home run off the bat of Chase Kelley. Brett Pierce also hit a sacrifice fly to score a run in the inning. The Trojans had surrendered a run in the top of the first, so the lead stood at 4-1.
Van Horn surrendered a solo home run in the third that cut the Trojan lead to 4-2, but the Trojans extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning to 7-2.
Selma cut the lead to 7-5 in the fifth and Pugh came in to shut down the rally. Selma committed three of its four errors in the bottom of the fifth as the Trojans scored seven runs.
Charles Henderson, though, did not commit a single error in the entire game.
Charles Henderson will take on Russell County today at Stanhope at 11:30 a.m. Russell County is 18-0 on the season.
Thursday, the Trojans will play host Stanhope Elmore and Dallas County.
