The Troy State University Long School of Music and the Troy Council on the Arts and Humanities will present its fourth annual Festival of Trumpets Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the TSU campus.
This concert has become a highly anticipated event as it brings together some of the top trumpet clinicians and some of the most highly taunted high school trumpeters in the area, said Dr. James Zingara, assistant professor of music at TSU.
The concert is the culmination of the activities involved with the TSU Trumpet Symposium, which is a full day of clinics for middle school, high school and college level students.
"Each year, the symposium has grown and continues to attract some of the very best and most dedicated trumpet players in our area," Zingara said. "They have opportunities to work with and learn from some of the best trumpet clinicians and also have an opportunity to see the facilities that we have available here at TSU, meet the faculty of the school of music and be exposed to life on our campus.
"Hopefully, many of these talented musicians make Troy State the university of their choice."
The evening program will attract those who especially moved by the emotions that are aroused by the sound of trumpets.
"There is no sound in the world that compares with that of trumpets," Zingara said. Over the years, trumpets have been used to herald great events. And, Saturday night, there will be a "great event" at TSU.
The evening program will feature performances by Dr. James Bovinette of Iowa State University, Charles Saenz of Bowling Green State University and TSU's own Dr. Zingara.
The Troy State Trumpet Ensemble and an honors ensemble composed of area high school students also will perform.
"The concert will offer the ceremony, scope and variety of typical band concert and will conclude with a spectacular mass finale including more than 50 performers," Zingara said.
Admission is free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to attend this spectacular, musical event.
