Pike Lib heads to Lee-Scott for region game

The Pike Liberal Arts School will open region play tonight in Auburn against Lee-Scott.

The Patriots come into tonight's game 1-3 on the season, while Lee-Scott is 2-2, following last week's victory over defending AAA champ Morgan.

Pike fell to Meadowview Christian 24-3 for their third loss of the year a week ago, but head coach Mack Williams was pleased with his team's effort during the entire game.

"Our problem is we have to get mentally tough," he said. "When we get the ball inside the 20-yard line, we've got to go ahead and score a touchdown. We didn't do that last week and that may have cost us a victory. We can't run up 380 yards of offense and lose a game."

Lee-Scott, a young football team with just one returning starter this year from an 8-3 record, surprisingly knocked off Morgan 13-7 on Friday night.

Williams knows his team will have their hands full.

"I know it's going to be a tough ball game and a challenge to our team," he said. "They (Lee-Scott) lost two week's ago, but came out and beat Morgan. I know Coach (Roddie) Beck has challenged his football team and we'll have to be ready."

Beck complimented the Patriots' football team and expressed the same concerns about the game tonight.

"I've known Coach Mack for a long time and it's hard to prepare for a team that he coach's," Beck said. "If you had to do that more then one time a season, it would probably run you to death. He puts a lot of pressure on you with what he does offensively and he has some talented players."

"We're trying to climb the hill and if we can get us a win there's no telling what can happen," said Williams.
