The Pike Liberal Arts School Patriots improved to 2-0 on the season with a 54-37 road win over Hooper Academy on Tuesday night.
The Patriots got a double-double each from its frontcourt tandem of Jared Waldrop and Druid Conrad. Both players scored 13 points, with Conrad grabbing 11 rebounds and Waldrop 10. Brandon Hooks had 11 points for PLAS.
"Our main concern right now is to continue playing as a team," said PLAS head coach Paul Kirchharr. "As long as we keep doing that, we have a chance to be pretty good this season."
The Patriots led 30-12 at the half and pulled away in the third period, 47-21.
Chad Anderson had 10 points to lead Hooper.
In girl's varsity action, the Lady Patriots picked up its first win of the year with a 45-27 victory over the Hooper girl's team.
Senior Beth Anderson scored 27 points to lead all scorers, while Rae Pinckard had eight and Brantley Kreis scored six.
"Beth had a good game, but we didn't shoot the ball well as a team," said PLAS head coach Robert Hawkins.
The Lady Patriots shot just 30 percent for the game.
However, Hawkins was pleased with his squad's defensive effort.
"We played better defense then we did against Abbeville," he said. The Lady Patriots lost to Abbeville Christian 51-43 in the season opener last week.
Kries missed that game due to illness and Hawkins feels her return to the court on Tuesday night was beneficial to his team's overall defensive play.
"It's good to have her back, because she's tall and can stop a lot of breakaway baskets," he said.
PLAS returns to action tonight against Fort Dale Academy. Tip-off for junior varsity girl's play is at 4 p.m., with JV boy's, varsity girl's and varsity' boy's action to follow.
